1. A method for controlling media content delivery comprising:

  • establishing communications via a first data channel between a media content source and a media device for delivery of media content;

    establishing communications via a backchannel network between the media content source and the media device, wherein the backchannel network is separate from the first data channel;

    receiving, at the media device, a user command;

    sending, from the media device, media control information based on the user command to a clearinghouse server via the backchannel network in real-time or near real-time;

    receiving the media control information at the clearinghouse server;

    processing the media control information at the clearinghouse server; and

    transmitting the processed media control information from the clearinghouse server to the media content source, andcontrolling, at the media content source, the delivery of the media content to the media device via the first data channel in response to the media control information sent from the media device via the backchannel network.
