METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROL OF MULTIPLE DEGREES OF FREEDOM OF A DISPLAY
First Claim
1. A program product comprising:
- (a) a sensor program for controlling multiple degrees of freedom of a display in response to user input in a sensing region separate from the display, the sensor program configured to;
receive indicia indicative of user input by one or more input objects in the sensing region;
indicate a quantity of translation along a first axis of the display in response to a determination that the user input comprises motion of a single input object having a component in a first direction, the quantity of translation along the first axis of the display based on an amount of the component in the first direction; and
indicate rotation about the first axis of the display in response to a determination that the user input comprises contemporaneous motion of multiple input objects having a component in the second direction, the second direction substantially orthogonal to the first direction, wherein the rotation about the first axis of the display is based on an amount of the component in the second direction; and
(b) computer-readable media bearing the sensor program

Abstract
A method for controlling multiple degrees of freedom of a display using a single contiguous sensing region of a sensing device is disclosed. The single contiguous sensing region is separate from the display. The method comprises: detecting a gesture in the single contiguous sensing region; causing rotation about a first axis of the display if the gesture is determined to comprise multiple input objects concurrently traveling along a second direction; causing rotation about a second axis of the display if the gesture is determined to comprise multiple input objects concurrently traveling along a first direction; and causing rotation about a third axis of the display if the gesture is determined to be a type of gesture that comprises multiple input objects. The first direction may be nonparallel to the second direction.
