Abstract

A financial transaction system includes a computer readable storage medium and a processor in communication with the computer readable storage medium. The processor is configured for receiving a plurality of messages. The plurality of messages including financial transaction authorization messages for performing a financial transaction. At least one of the plurality of messages includes non-financial data. The processor is further configured for parsing each of the plurality of messages to identify data for performing the financial transaction and the non-financial transaction data contained in the plurality of messages, and for storing the data for performing the financial transaction and the non-financial transaction data in a computer readable storage medium such that the non-financial transaction data is associated with data for performing the financial transaction.

Claims

7. A method, comprising:

receiving a plurality of messages via a telecommunications network, the plurality of messages including financial transaction authorization messages for performing a financial transaction, at least one of the plurality of messages including non-financial data relating to the financial transaction;

parsing each of the plurality of messages in a computer processor configured to identify data for performing the financial transaction and the non-financial transaction data contained in the plurality of messages; and

storing the data for performing the financial transaction and the non-financial data in a computer readable storage medium such that the non-financial data is associated with the financial transaction data.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the message that includes non-financial data is not a financial transaction authorization message.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein the message that includes non-financial data is transmitted after the financial transaction has been completed.

10. The method of claim 7, wherein the message that includes non-financial data is a financial transaction authorization message.

11. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

transmitting a financial transaction authorization response message to complete the financial transaction.

12. A computer readable storage medium encoded with program code, wherein when the program code is executed by a processor, the processor performs a method, the method comprising:

receiving a plurality of messages via a telecommunications network, the plurality of messages including financial transaction authorization messages for performing a financial transaction, at least one of the plurality of messages including non-financial data relating to the financial transaction;

parsing each of the plurality of messages in a computer processor configured to identify data for performing the financial transaction and the non-financial transaction data contained in the plurality of messages; and

storing the data for performing the financial transaction and the non-financial data in a computer readable storage medium such that the non-financial data is associated with the data for performing the financial transaction.

13. The computer readable storage medium of claim 12, wherein the message that includes non-financial data is not a financial transaction authorization message.

14. The computer readable storage medium of claim 12, wherein the message that includes non-financial data is transmitted after the financial transaction has been completed.

15. The computer readable storage medium of claim 12, wherein the message that includes non-financial data is a financial transaction authorization message.

16. The computer readable storage medium of claim 12, wherein the method further comprises:

transmitting a financial transaction authorization response message to complete the financial transaction.

17. A method comprising:

receiving data from a payment device;

storing data for performing a financial transaction including the data received from the payment device and non-financial transaction data in a computer readable storage medium, the non-financial data relating to the financial transaction;

transmitting electrical or optical signals representing the stored data for performing the financial transaction in a financial transaction authorization message to one of an acquirer or a payment processor; and

transmitting electrical or optical signals representing the non-financial data to the payment processor.

1. A financial transaction system, comprising:

a computer readable storage medium; and

a processor in communication with the computer readable storage medium, the processor configured to;

receive a plurality of messages, the plurality of messages including financial transaction authorization messages for performing a financial transaction, at least one of the plurality of messages including non-financial data relating to the financial transaction;

parse each of the plurality of messages to identify data for performing the financial transaction and the non-financial transaction data contained in the plurality of messages; and

store the data for performing the financial transaction and the non-financial data in the computer readable storage medium such that the non-financial data is associated with the data for performing the financial transaction.

2. The financial transaction system of claim 1, wherein the message that includes non-financial data is separate from the financial transaction authorization messages.

3. The financial transaction system of claim 1, wherein the message that includes non-financial data is transmitted after the financial transaction has been completed.

4. The financial transaction system of claim 1, wherein the message that includes non-financial data is a financial transaction authorization request message.

5. The financial transaction system of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to generate a report based on the financial and non-financial data, the report identifying a spending pattern of a cardholder.

6. The financial transaction system of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to transmit a financial transaction authorization response message to complete the financial transaction.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the non-financial data is transmitted in the financial transaction authorization message.

19. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

receiving a second financial transaction authorization message, the second financial transaction authorization message completing the financial transaction.

19-1. The method of claim 18, wherein the non-financial transaction data is transmitted in a message to the payment processor after the financial transaction has been completed.

20. A computer readable storage medium encoded with program code, wherein when the program code is executed by a processor, the processor performs a method, the method comprising:

receiving data from a payment device;

storing financial transaction data including the data received from the payment device and non-financial transaction data in a computer readable storage medium;

transmitting electrical or optical signals representing the financial data in a financial transaction authorization message to one of an acquirer or a payment processor; and

transmitting electrical or optical signals representing the non-financial data to the payment processor.

21. The computer readable storage medium of claim 20, wherein the non-financial data is transmitted in the financial transaction authorization message.

22. The computer readable storage medium of claim 20, wherein the method further comprises:

receiving a second financial transaction authorization message to complete the financial transaction,

wherein the non-financial transaction data is transmitted after receiving the second financial transaction authorization message.

23. A financial transaction system, comprising:

a computer readable storage medium; and

a processor in communication with the computer readable storage medium, the processor configured to;

receive data from a payment device;

store data for performing a financial transaction including the data received from the payment device and non-financial transaction data in a computer readable storage medium, the non-financial data relating to the financial transaction;

transmitting electrical or optical signals representing the stored data for performing the financial transaction in a financial transaction authorization message to one of an acquirer or a payment processor; and

transmitting electrical or optical signals representing the non-financial data to the payment processor.
