Abstract

Various embodiments are disclosed for a services policy communication system and method. In some embodiments, a communications device stores a set of device credentials for activating the communications device for a service on a network; and sends an access request to the network, the access request including the set of device credentials.

Claims

1. A system, comprising:

a processor of a communications device configured to;

store a first set of device credentials for activating the communications device for a first service on a first network; and

send an access request to the first network, the access request including the first set of device credentials; and

a memory of the communications device coupled to the processor and configured to provide the processor with instructions.

2. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the communications device is a mobile communications device, and the first service includes one or more Internet based services.

3. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the first set of device credentials are permanent credentials, temporary credentials, or partial credentials.

4. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the first set of device credentials are permanent credentials, temporary credentials, or partial credentials, and wherein the temporary credentials include a temporary phone number.

5. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the first set of device credentials include one or more of the following:

a temporarily assigned device identifier, a phone number, a device identification, a device security signature, a subscriber identity module (SIM), a device type identifier, an IP address, a MAC address, a device group, a device class, a device service owner, a service provider, a virtual service provider, a device manufacturer, a device distributor, a service distributor, one or more service processor settings or version, a user identification, a user type, a user group, and a user class.

6. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the first set of device credentials include one or more provisioning actions.

7. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the communications device is provisioned with the first set of credentials prior to a point of sale of the communications device.

8. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the communications device is provisioned with the first set of credentials after a point of sale of the communications device and prior to an activation of the communications device.

9. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the communications device is provisioned with the first set of credentials at a time of manufacture, during distribution, at a point of sale, after a point of sale, or upon a first access request to the first network.

10. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the communications device is associated with a first service plan based at least in part on the first set of device credentials.

11. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the processor of the communications device is further configured to:

provision the communications device for the first service on the first network, based at least in part on the first set of device credentials.

12. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the processor of the communications device is further configured to:

receive a second set of device credentials for provisioning the communications device for the first service on the first network.

13. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the processor of the communications device is further configured to:

receive a second set of device credentials for provisioning the communications device for the first service on the first network, wherein the first set of device credentials are temporary credentials, and the second set of device credentials are permanent credentials.

14. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the processor of the communications device is further configured to:

provision the communications device for the first service on the first network based on communications with a network provisioning function to receive provisioning information based at least in part on the first set of device credentials.

15. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the processor of the communications device is further configured to:

provision the communications device for the first service on the first network based on communications with a network provisioning function to receive provisioning information based at least in part on the first set of device credentials, wherein the network provisioning function is provided by an activation server.

16. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the processor of the communications device is further configured to:

provision the communications device for the first service on the first network based on communications with a network provisioning function to receive provisioning information based at least in part on the first set of device credentials, wherein the provisioning information includes a second set of device credentials.

17. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the processor of the communications device is further configured to:

send an activation request to the first network to activate the communications device for the first service on the first network, the activation request including the first set of device credentials.

18. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the processor of the communications device is further configured to:

send an activation request to the first network to activate the communications device for the first service on the first network, the activation request including the first set of device credentials; and

send activation tracking service information to a billing server, wherein the activation tracking service information is based at least in part on the first set of device credentials.

19. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the processor of a communications device is further configured to:

associate the communications device with a service account based at least in part on the first set of device credentials, wherein the service account is a permanent service account or a temporary service account.

20. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the processor of a communications device is further configured to:

associate the communications device with a service account based at least in part on the first set of device credentials, wherein the service account is a reactivated service account that was previously suspended.

21. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the processor of the communications device is further configured to:

suspend the communications device upon an expiration of a period of time of inactivity.

22. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the processor of the communications device is further configured to:

suspend the communications device upon an expiration of a period of time of inactivity; and

send a reactivation request to access the first service after the expiration of the period of time of inactivity.

23. The system recited in claim 1, wherein the processor of the communications device is further configured to:

suspend the communications device upon an expiration of a period of time of inactivity; and

send a reactivation request to access the first service after the expiration of the period of time of inactivity using a second set of device credentials.

24. A method, comprising:

storing a first set of device credentials in a storage of a communications device for activating the communications device for a first service on a first network; and

sending an access request to the first network, the access request including the first set of device credentials.

25. A computer program product, the computer program product being embodied in a computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions for:

storing a first set of device credentials in a storage of a communications device for activating the communications device for a first service on a first network; and

sending an access request to the first network, the access request including the first set of device credentials.

26. A system, comprising:

a processor of a network device configured to;

receive an access request from a first communications device, the access request including a first set of device credentials;

identify the first set of device credentials for the first communications device; and

set a plurality of access control settings to prepare for activation of the first communications device for the first service on the first network, based at least in part on the first set of device credentials; and

a memory of the network device coupled to the processor and configured to provide the processor with instructions.

27. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the network device is in communication with the first network, and the network device includes one or more of the following:

an activation server;

a billing system;

a AAA system;

a gateway;

a router;

a switch;

a network server;

a device that generates, aggregates, manages or stores CDRs;

a base station controller; and

a base station.

28. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the network device is an activation server in communication with the first network.

29. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the network device is in communication with a device credential database.

30. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the network device is in communication with a plurality of central provider networks for activating the first communications device.

31. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the first communications device is a mobile communications device, and the first service includes one or more Internet based services.

32. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the first set of device credentials are permanent credentials, temporary credentials, or partial credentials.

33. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the first set of device credentials are permanent credentials, temporary credentials, or partial credentials, and wherein the temporary credentials include a temporary phone number.

34. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the first set of device credentials include one or more of the following:

a temporarily assigned device identifier, a phone number, a device identification, a device security signature, a subscriber identity module (SIM), a device type identifier, an IP address, a MAC address, a device group, a device class, a device service owner, a service provider, a virtual service provider, a device manufacturer, a device distributor, a service distributor, one or more service processor settings or version, a user identification, a user type, a user group, and a user class.

35. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the first set of device credentials include one or more provisioning actions.

36. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the first communications device is provisioned with the first set of credentials prior to a point of sale of the communications device.

37. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the first communications device is provisioned with the first set of credentials after a point of sale of the communications device and prior to activation of the communications device.

38. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the first communications device is provisioned with the first set of credentials at a time of manufacture, during distribution, at a point of sale, after a point of sale, or upon an access request to the first network.

39. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

verify the first set of device credentials.

40. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

set a plurality of access control settings in one or more of the following;

a billing system;

a AAA system;

a gateway;

a router;

a switch;

a network server;

a device that generates, aggregates, manages or stores CDRs;

a base station controller; and

a base station.

41. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

set a plurality of service controls to prepare for activation of the first communications device in one or more of the following;

a billing system;

a AAA system;

a gateway;

a router;

a switch;

a network server;

a device that generates, aggregates, manages or stores CDRs;

a base station controller; and

a base station.

42. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

set a plurality of service controls to prepare for activation of the first communications device for the first service on the first network, based at least in part on the first set of device credentials.

43. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

set a plurality of service controls to prepare for activation of the first communications device for the first service on the first network, based at least in part on the first set of device credentials, wherein the plurality of service controls include one or more service profiles for the first communications device stored in an a AAA function for the first network.

44. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

associate the first communications device with one or more provisioning requirements based at least in part the first set of device credentials.

45. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

associate the first communications device with one or more provisioning actions based at least in part the first set of device credentials, wherein the first set of device credentials are temporary credentials, and wherein the first set of device credentials are shared by a second communications device.

46. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

associate the first communications device with one or more provisioning actions based at least in part the first set of device credentials; and

perform one or more provisioning actions prior to an activation of the first communications device.

47. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

associate the first communications device with one or more provisioning actions based at least in part the first set of device credentials; and

send to the first communications device a second set of device credentials for provisioning the first communications device for the first service on the first network.

48. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

associate the first communications device with one or more provisioning actions based at least in part the first set of device credentials; and

send to the first communications device a second set of device credentials for provisioning the first communications device for the first service on the first network, wherein the first set of device credentials are temporary credentials, and the second set of device credentials are permanent credentials.

49. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

associate the first communications device with one or more provisioning actions based at least in part the first set of device credentials; and

send to the first communications device a second set of device credentials for provisioning the first communications device for the first service on the first network, wherein the first set of device credentials are temporary credentials, and the second set of device credentials are permanent credentials, and wherein the first set of device credentials are recycled for later use by a second communications device.

50. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

associate the first communications device with one or more provisioning actions based at least in part the first set of device credentials, wherein the first set of device credentials are shared by a second communications device.

51. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

provision the first communications device for the first service on the first network by providing provisioning information based at least in part on the first set of device credentials.

52. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the communications device is further configured to:

provision the first communications device for the first service on the first network by providing provisioning information based at least in part on the first set of device credentials, wherein the network device includes an activation server or is in communication with the activation server.

53. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the communications device is further configured to:

provision the first communications device for the first service on the first network by providing provisioning information based at least in part on the first set of device credentials, wherein the provisioning information includes a second set of device credentials.

54. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

receive an activation request of the first communications device for the first service on the first network, the activation request including the first set of device credentials.

55. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

receive an activation request for the first communications device for the first service on the first network, the activation request including the first set of device credentials; and

activate the first communications device for the first service on the first network, based at least in part on the first set of device credentials.

56. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

receive an activation request for the first communications device for the first service on the first network, the activation request including the first set of device credentials;

activate the first communications device for the first service on the first network, based at least in part on the first set of device credentials; and

send activation tracking service information to a billing server, wherein the activation tracking service information is based at least in part on the first set of device credentials.

57. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of a network device is further configured to:

associate the first communications device with a service account based at least in part on the first set of device credentials, wherein the service account is a permanent service account or a temporary service account.

58. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of a network device is further configured to:

associate the first communications device with a service account based at least in part on the first set of device credentials, wherein the service account is a reactivated service account that was previously suspended.

59. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of a network device is further configured to:

associate the first communications device with a service plan based at least in part on the first set of device credentials.

60. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

suspend the first communications device upon an expiration of a period of time of inactivity.

61. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

suspend the first communications device upon an expiration of a period of time of inactivity; and

redirect the first communications device to a reactivation request to access the first service after the expiration of the period of time of inactivity.

62. The system recited in claim 26, wherein the processor of the network device is further configured to:

suspend the first communications device upon an expiration of a period of time of inactivity; and

redirect the first communications device to a reactivation request to access the first service after the expiration of the period of time of inactivity, wherein the reactivation request is based at least in part on a second set of device credentials.

63. A method, comprising:

receiving an access request from a first communications device, the access request including a first set of device credentials;

identifying the first set of device credentials for the first communications device using a processor of a network device; and

setting a plurality of access control settings to prepare for activation of the first communications device for the first service on the first network, based at least in part on the first set of device credentials.

64. A computer program product, the computer program product being embodied in a computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions for:

receiving an access request from a first communications device, the access request including a first set of device credentials;

identifying the first set of device credentials for the first communications device; and

setting a plurality of access control settings to prepare for activation of the first communications device for the first service on the first network, based at least in part on the first set of device credentials.
