1. A method of interacting with a printed substrate, said substrate comprising a coding pattern printed with an IR-absorbing ink, said method comprising the steps of:

  • operatively positioning an optically-imaging sensing device relative to the substrate and sensing at least part of the coding pattern; and

    generating interaction data using the sensed coding pattern, wherein said IR-absorbing ink comprises a dye of formula (I);

    whereinM is Ga(A1);

    A1 is an axial ligand selected from the group consisting of;

    OH and halogen;

    R1 and R2 may be the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of;

    hydrogen and C1-12 alkoxy; and

    W is a sulfonic acid group or salts thereof.
