Abstract

Collapsible water-containing capsule comprising by weight: (a) from about 40% to about 98% of a water phase comprising at least 50% water by weight of the water phase; and (b) from about 0.1% to about 35% of a water repelling silicone elastomer powder comprising 100 weight parts of a spherical silicone elastomer particle and 0.5-25 weight parts of polyorganosilsequioxane for coating the spherical silicone elastomer particle; wherein the water repelling silicone elastomer powder does not disperse in, but floats in water; has an average particle size of at least 1 μm and has a softness of from about 10 to about 80 measured by Durometer A Hardness; and (c) from about 2% to about 30% of a filler powder having an average particle size of no more than about 1 μm and which is hydrophobically surface-treated.

Claims

1. A collapsible water-containing capsule comprising by weight:

(a) from about 40% to about 98% of a water phase comprising at least 50% water by weight of the water phase; and

(b) from about 0.1% to about 35% of a water repelling silicone elastomer powder comprising 100 weight parts of a spherical silicone elastomer particle and 0.5-25 weight parts of polyorganosilsequioxane for coating the spherical silicone elastomer particle;

wherein the water repelling silicone elastomer powder does not disperse in, but floats in water;

has an average particle size of at least 1 μ

m and has a softness of from about 10 to about 80 measured by Durometer A Hardness; and

(c) from about 2% to about 30% of a filler powder having an average particle size of no more than about 1 μ

m and which is hydrophobically surface-treated.

2. The capsule of claim 1 wherein the surface of the coated polyorganosilsequioxane of the water repelling silicone elastomer powder is further bonded with a trimethylsilyl group.

The capsule of claim 1 wherein the surface coated polyorganosilsequioxane of the water repelling silicone elastomer powder is further condensated by hydrolyzing with tetraalkoxysilane and at least one silylation agent selected from the group consisting of, trimethylalkoxysilane, trimethylsilanol, and hexamethyldisilazine.

4. The capsule of claim 1 wherein the water repelling silicone elastomer powder has a softness of from about 10 to about 35 measured by Durometer A Hardness.

The capsule of claim 1 wherein the filler powder comprises at least a spindle-shaped metal oxide powder which is hydrophobically surface-treated and has an average long axis particle size of from about 25 nm to about 150 nm, an average short axis particle size of from about 4 nm to about 50 nm, and an aspect ratio of greater than about 3.

6. The capsule of claim 1 wherein the water phase further comprises a gelling agent.

7. The capsule of claim 1 further comprising a skin benefit agent.

8. The capsule of claim 1 further comprising a perfume.

9. The capsule of claim 1 wherein the capsule is substantially free of surfactants.

10. The capsule of claim 1 wherein the capsule is substantially free of fluorine surface coated pigments.

11. A cosmetic composition comprising the capsule of claim 1.

12. The capsule of claim 1 wherein the capsule has appropriate shear tolerance such that it is stable under normal storage conditions as well as normal mixing processes, however, collapses upon application on the personal surface.

13. The capsule of claim 12 wherein the capsule has a shock stability of at least 8 minutes when measured by the Tumbling Impact Method herein defined.

14. A process for making the capsule of claim 1 wherein the components of the capsule are mixed by a mixing apparatus selected from the group consisting of external energy sourcing type and container shaking type.

15. The process of claim 14 wherein the capsule is to be provided in a final primary packaging for consumer use, wherein the process comprises the steps of:

i) directly supplying the water phase, the water repelling silicone elastomer powder, and the filler powder in the final primary packaging; and

ii) mounting the product of step i) onto the mixing apparatus for making the capsule.

A preparation-at-use product for providing the collapsible water-containing capsule of claim 1 comprising the compositional components of the capsule and a final primary packaging having an inner wall having a surface tension of 50 dyne/cm or less, wherein the water phase is separately packaged from the water repelling silicone elastomer powder and the filler powder prior to use, and wherein the capsule is made by the steps of:

i) filling the water phase, the water repelling silicone elastomer powder, and the filler powder into the final primary packaging; and

ii) manually shaking the product of step i) until the water phase is encapsulated in the filler powder.

17. A method of treating or making up of the skin comprising the steps of:

(1) providing the collapsible water-containing capsule of claim 1;

(2) shearing the collapsible water-containing capsule on the skin by a finger or an applicator to allow the collapsible water-containing capsule to collapse;

whereby the components of the collapsible water-containing capsule are applied on the skin; and

(3) allowing the water to evaporate and/or be absorbed in the skin.
