Abstract

An apparatus and method for estimating an absolute power level in a Multiple Users Reusing One Single time slot (MUROS) system are provided. The absolute value of power level of the MUROS user is received by the MUROS user from a Base Transceiver Station (BTS). The MUROS user also determines the mean value of its own signal strength. The absolute value of power level of the other user paired with the MUROS user is estimated using the received absolute value of power level of the MUROS user and the determined mean value of signal strength. The estimated absolute value of power level of the other user and the absolute value of power level of the MUROS user are further used by the MUROS user to estimate its channel. Information about the estimated channel of the MUROS user is provided to the BTS by the MUROS user and the BTS uses this information to allocate power to the two users which are paired for MUROS.

Claims

1. A method for estimating an absolute value of power level in a Multiple Users Reusing One Single time slot (MUROS) system having at least a Base Transceiver Station (BTS) and a pair of two mobile stations, the method comprising:

receiving an absolute value of power level of a first mobile station by the first mobile station from a BTS;

determining a mean value of signal strength by the first mobile station; and

estimating an absolute value of power level of a second mobile station by the first mobile station using the received absolute value of power level of the first mobile station and the determined mean value of signal strength.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the determining of the mean value of the signal strength comprises:

receiving a complex symbol by the first mobile station from the BTS; and

determining the mean value of the signal strength using the complex symbol.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the receiving of the absolute value of power level of the first mobile station by the first mobile station from the BTS comprises receiving a configured signal.

4. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

estimating a channel for the first mobile station by the first mobile station using the estimated absolute value of power level of the second mobile station and the received absolute value of power level of the first mobile station.

5. The method according to claim 4, further comprising:

receiving information about the estimated channel by the BTS from the first mobile station; and

allocating power to the two paired mobile stations by the BTS using the information.

6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the estimating of the absolute value of power level in the MUROS system is performed by a MUROS mobile station.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the estimating of the absolute value of power level in the MUROS system is performed by anyone of the two mobile stations when both of the two mobile stations are MUROS mobile stations.

8. A Multiple Users Reusing One Single time slot (MUROS) mobile station comprising:

a first processing unit for estimating an absolute value of power level of a mobile station, wherein the MUROS mobile station is paired with the mobile station; and

a second processing unit for estimating a channel of the MUROS mobile station using the estimated absolute value of power level of the mobile station and a mean value of signal strength of the MUROS mobile station.

9. The MUROS mobile station according to claim 8, wherein the MUROS mobile station receives the absolute value of power level of the mobile station from a Base Transceiver Station (BTS) connected to the MUROS mobile station and the mobile station.

10. The MUROS mobile station according to claim 8, wherein the second processing unit determines the mean value of signal strength of the MUROS mobile station using a complex symbol received from a Base Transceiver Station (BTS).

11. The mobile station according to claim 8, wherein the mobile station comprises one of a MUROS mobile station and a legacy mobile station.

12. A Base Transceiver Station (BTS) system connected to a Multiple Users Reusing One Single time slot (MUROS) mobile station in a wireless telecommunication system, the BTS system comprising:

a first processing unit for transmitting an absolute value of power level of the MUROS mobile station to the MUROS mobile station wherein the MUROS mobile station is paired with a mobile station; and

a second processing unit for allocating power to the MUROS mobile station and the mobile station using information about channel estimation of the MUROS mobile station received from the MUROS mobile station.

13. The BTS system according to claim 12, wherein the mobile station comprises one of:

a MUROS mobile station; and

a legacy mobile station.
