1. A system for monitoring energy delivering from an energy supply unit to a target tissue region, where the target tissue region comprises a plurality of tissue layers each having varying characteristics, the system comprising:
- a treatment unit having a device body and a first plurality of energy transfer elements, where the device body includes a tissue engaging surface that allows orientation of the device body on the surface of tissue, the treatment unit further including a first plurality of energy transfer elements extending from the tissue engaging surface and each including an energy transfer portion configured to apply energy during a treatment cycle of the energy supply unit;
a connector adapted to couple the energy supply unit to the plurality of energy transfer elements; and
a graphical user interface coupled to the energy supply and energy transfer element, the graphical user interface comprising a tissue characteristic indicator configured to identify at least one characteristic of a tissue layer in which the energy transfer portion of the energy transfer element is located when the energy transfer elements are inserted into the target tissue for a treatment cycle.
