ORGANIZING ENTRIES IN PARTICIPANT LISTS BASED ON COMMUNICATIONS STRENGTHS
First Claim
1. A method for organizing a participant list, the method comprising:
- maintaining a participant list of users of an electronic communications system to be used by a first user of the electronic communications system, the participant list including a first group of users of the electronic communications system and a second group of users of the electronic communications system that is different from the first group of users;
determining communications strengths between the first user and each of the users included in the first group of users, wherein the determining the communications strengths includes determining communications strengths between a second user and each of the users included in the first group of users; and
determining an order in which to list the users in the first group of users based on the determined communications strengths, wherein determining the order includes ordering the users in the first group of users based on the determined communications strengths between the second user and each of the users included in the first group of users.

Abstract
Organizing a participant list includes maintaining a participant list of users of an electronic communications system to be used by a first user of the electronic communications system. Communications strengths between the first user and each of the users included in the participant list are determined. The users included in the participant list are organized based on the corresponding communications strengths. Communications strengths may be determined for users included in a group within a participant list, and the users within the group may be organized within the group based on communications strength. An additional group in the participant list in which some or all of the users included in the participant list are organized based on communications strength may be provided.

12. A method for organizing a participant list, the method comprising:
-
maintaining a participant list of users of an electronic communications system to be used by a first user of the electronic communications system, the participant list including a first group of users of the electronic communications system and a second group of users of the electronic communications system that is different from the first group of users; determining communications strengths between the first user and each of the users included in the first group of users; determining communications strengths between the first user and each of the users included in the second group of users; determining an order in which to list the users in the first group of users based on the determined communications strengths between the first user and each of the users included in the first group of users, the determining the order in which to list the users in the first group of users includes ranking the users in the first group of users relative to one another and to the exclusion of users not in the first group of users based on the determined communications strengths between the first user and each of the users included in the first group of users; and determining an order in which to list the users included in the second group of users based on the determined communications strengths between the first user and each of the users within the second group of users, the determining the order in which to list the users included in the second group of users includes ranking the users in the second group of users relative to one another and to the exclusion of users not in the second group of users based on the determined communications strengths between the first user and each of the users included in the second group of users. - View Dependent Claims (13)

14. A method for organizing a participant list, the method comprising:
-
maintaining a list of users of an electronic communications system for use by a particular user of the electronic communications system, the list of users including at least a first subgroup of users of the electronic communications system; determining communications strengths between the particular user and each of the users included in the list of users of the electronic communications system; comparing the determined communications strength between the particular user and another user within the list of users of the electronic communications system to a predetermined threshold value; based on results of comparing the determined communications strength between the particular user and the other user to the predetermined threshold value, determining that the determined communications strength between the particular user and the other user is less than the predetermined threshold value; and as a consequence of determining that the determined communications strength between the particular user and the other user is less than the predetermined threshold value, removing the other user from the list of users of the electronic communications system. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
