Abstract

An embodiment of the invention provides a prosthesis delivery system comprising a delivery catheter having an expandable member and a prosthesis carried over the expandable member. The prosthesis includes a radially expandable scaffold section and at least two anchors extending axially from an end thereof; and means for capturing at least the anchors to prevent the anchors from divaricating from the expandable member as the catheter is advanced through a patient'"'"'s vasculature.

Claims

1. A prosthesis capable of being carried through the vasculature over an expandable balloon and of being deployed at an Os, the prosthesis comprising:

a radially expandable scaffold section;

at least two anchors extending axially from an end of the radially expandable scaffold section; and

a member extending around and coupled with the anchors, the member being spaced from the radially expandable scaffold and having a first configuration for maintaining the anchors in a low profile configuration for advancement through the patient'"'"'s vasculature, the member also having a second configuration for permitting the anchors to expand to a higher profile configuration.

2. A prosthesis as in claim 1, wherein the member is expandable upon expansion of the balloon to permit the anchors to be spaced farther apart from each other than when carried over the balloon.

3. A prosthesis as in claim 1, wherein the member is configured to be detached from the anchors prior to expansion of the balloon.

4. A prosthesis as in claim 1, wherein the member is plastically deformable upon expansion of the balloon to release the anchors.

5. A prosthesis as in claim 1, wherein the member comprises a band disposed about the anchors.

6. A prosthesis as in claim 1, wherein the member comprises a radiopaque material.

7. A vascular device, comprising:

the prosthesis of claim 1; and

a second prosthesis configured to be deployed in the vasculature, such that the anchors are disposed between the second prosthesis and the wall of the vasculature.

8. A vascular device as in claim 7, wherein the second prosthesis is configured to be deployed between two of the anchors.

9. A prosthesis as in claim 1, wherein the at least two anchors are arranged to bend and rotate relative to the radially expandable scaffold such that the anchors can circumscribe a main vessel lumen to conform to the wall opposite the Os.

10. A prosthesis as in claim 1, further comprising at least three anchors extending from the radially expansible scaffold.

11. A prosthesis as in claim 1, wherein at least one of the anchors has an axial length that is at least 1.5 times the width of the scaffold prior to radial expansion.

12. A prosthesis as in claim 1, wherein at least one of the anchors has an axial length of at least about 2 mm.

13. A prosthesis as in claim 1, wherein the radially expansible scaffold has a first wall pattern and wherein the prosthesis has a region with a second wall pattern that is different from the first wall pattern, said second wall pattern permitting the anchors to both bend and rotate.

14. A prosthesis as in claim 1, wherein at least one of the anchors extends helically from the radially expansible scaffold.

15. A prosthesis as in claim 1, wherein at least one of the anchors extends spirally from the radially expansible scaffold.

16. A prosthesis as in claim 1, wherein at least one of the anchors extends in a serpentine pattern from the radially expansible scaffold.

17. A prosthesis capable of being carried through the vasculature over an expandable balloon and of being deployed at an Os, the prosthesis comprising:

a radially expandable scaffold section;

at least two anchors extending axially from an end of the radially expandable scaffold section; and

a capturing structure configured to prevent the anchors from divaricating from a low profile configuration as the prosthesis is advanced through a patient'"'"'s vasculature.

18. A prosthesis as in claim 17, wherein the capturing structure comprises a tether which circumscribes a proximal portion of the prosthesis.

19. A prosthesis as in claim 18, wherein the tether is configured to be detachably attached to the anchors prior to expansion of the prosthesis.

20. A prosthesis as in claim 17, wherein the capturing structure is configured to break upon expansion of the prosthesis.
