Abstract

Demand response to reduce energy consumption by individual consumers is provided by aggregating individual consumers, and providing feedback to such consumers regarding their energy consumption relative to other energy consumers in a group. The resulting feedback may result in reduced energy consumption by the individual consumer.

Claims

1. A system for generating an energy resource by individuals from acts of energy management, comprising:

an education portion for providing an individual with information concerning energy use and acts of energy management;

a communication portion for providing an individual with communication concerning at least one of a present and anticipated need for conducting an energy management act;

an information retrieval portion to obtain real time and historical information regarding at least one of real time and historical information regarding an energy management act and corresponding energy use by said individual, and related energy use of said individual or other individuals;

a comparison portion to compare information retrieved regarding the energy management act conducted by said individual concerning said communication of need and corresponding energy use, with related information regarding energy use by said individual or another individual, to establish a corresponding net reduction in energy use from the energy management act conducted; and

a compiling device for aggregating multiple acts of energy management and their corresponding net reductions in energy use;

wherein said information retrieval portion, said comparison portion, and said compiling device are provided by one or more processors, and two or more of the aggregated acts of energy management generate an energy resource from the corresponding net reductions in energy use.

2. A system dependent on claim 1, wherein the energy resource is generated by groups of individuals.

3. A system dependent on claim 1, wherein the acts of energy management comprise energy conservation.

4. A system dependent on claim 1, wherein the acts of energy management comprise energy efficiency.

5. A system dependent on claim 1, wherein the acts of energy management comprise energy use shifting.

6. A system dependent on claim 1, wherein the individuals and groups of individuals act organize on behalf of an organization that receives a benefit from the energy resources generated.

7. A system dependent on claim 1, wherein the energy resource generated is exchanged for another item of value.

8. A system dependent on claim 1, wherein the energy resource generated is exchanged for currency.

9. A system dependent on claim 7, wherein the energy resource generated is exchanged for a credit.

10. A system dependent on claim 7, wherein the energy resource generated is exchanged for a product or service.

11. A system dependent on claim 1, further comprising a forum whereby individuals can market the energy resource generated.

12. A method for generating an energy resource from acts of energy management by individuals, comprising the steps of:

providing education tools for providing individuals with information concerning energy use and acts of energy management;

communicating to an individual concerning a need for at least one of present and anticipated sources of energy management acts;

retrieving information regarding at least one of real time and historical information regarding an energy management act and corresponding energy use by said individual, and related energy use by said individual or other individuals;

comparing the retrieved information regarding energy management acts conducted by an individual and corresponding energy use, with related information regarding energy use by said individual or another individual;

establishing a net reduction in energy use corresponding to the energy management act conducted;

compiling multiple acts of energy management conducted; and

generating an energy resource from two of more of the compiled acts of energy management and the corresponding net reductions in energy use.

13. A method depending on claim 12, further comprising the step of:

aggregating the acts of energy management by groups of individuals to generate the energy resource.

14. A method dependent on claim 12, further comprising the step of providing a forum for individuals to market the energy resource.

15. A method for marketing an energy resource generated from acts of energy management by individuals, comprising the steps of:

providing communication means for transferring energy information to individuals;

providing educational tools about energy management;

aggregating acts of energy management by individuals to generate an energy resource; and

providing a forum for individuals to market the energy resources generated.

16. A method dependent on claim 15, further comprising the step of:

aggregating acts of energy management by groups of individuals to generate the energy resource.
