Abstract

A health sensing device is described for placement on a user. The device may include a sensor, a filter, and a transmitter. The sensor is configured to sense one or more factors relating to an indicator of a health related condition or occurrence. The filter is configured to evaluate a signal from the sensor and determine if the indicator has been detected. The transmitter is arranged for initiating a transmission based on a signal from the filter. The sensor can include one or more microphone devices, accelerometers, and/or MEMs devices. A method of monitoring a user for a health related condition is also described.

Claims

1. A health sensing device for placement on a user, the device comprising:

a sensor configured to sense a sleep position of an infant and generate a sensor signal in response to the sleep position when an indicating sleep position is detected; and

a transmitter configured to receive the sensor signal and generate a transmission responsive to the sensor signal.

2. The device of claim 1, further comprising a filter configured to receive the sensor signal from the sensor, determine if an indicating sleep position has been detected, and filter the sensor signal.

3. The device of claim 2, wherein the indicating sleep position is a face down sleep position.

4. A health sensing system, comprising the device of claim 1 and a second device wherein the second device comprises a receiver and a processor and wherein the processor is configured to notify a third party.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the user is an infant and the third party is a parent of the infant.

6. A health sensing system, comprising the device of claim 1, and a second device wherein the second device comprises a receiver and a processor and wherein the processor is configured to stimulate the user.

7. A method for a health sensing device to monitor a user for a health related condition, comprising:

sensing a sleep position of the user with the health sensing device;

generating a sensor signal responsive to the sleep position of the user and associated with the health related condition; and

initiating a transmission responsive to the sensor signal.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the health sensing device further analyzes the sleep position of the user and determines if the sleep position reflects a likelihood of a presence of an indicator of a health condition.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the indicator is a face down sleep position.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein initiating a transmission includes selectively transmitting when the indicator is present.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising receiving the transmission and performing a process, wherein performing a process includes notifying a third party.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein notifying a third party includes sounding an alarm.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein performing a process further includes storing data related to the sleep position.

14. A health action device for responding to an indicator of a health related condition or occurrence of a user, the indicator being produced by a health sensing device, the health action device comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a transmission and communicate a receiver signal to a processor, the transmission transmitted by the health sensing device and including the indicator of a health related condition or occurrence;

a processor configured to receive the receiver signal, interpret the receiver signal, and communicate a processor signal to a responder; and

a responder configured to receive the processor signal and conduct an action responsive to the health related condition or occurrence.

15. The device of claim 14, wherein the action includes notifying a third party.

16. The device of claim 15, wherein the responder is an audio alarm and notifying a third party includes sounding the alarm.

17. The device of claim 16, wherein the processor signal includes instructions responsive to the health related condition.

18. The device of claim 17, wherein the instructions relate to stimulating an infant.

19. The device of claim 18, wherein the responder is a vibratory device adapted to stimulate the infant according to the instructions.
