Abstract

A fluid delivery device comprises a hydraulic pump chamber having a hydraulic fluid. A fluid reservoir is coupled to the hydraulic pump chamber and is configured to contain a fluid deliverable to a patient. A first actuator is coupled to the hydraulic pump chamber and is configured to pressurize the hydraulic pump chamber and configured to transfer energy through the hydraulic pump chamber to the fluid reservoir. A second actuator is coupled to the hydraulic pump chamber and is configured to pressurize the hydraulic pump chamber and configured to transfer energy through the hydraulic pump chamber to the fluid reservoir.

2. A fluid delivery device comprising:

a hydraulic pump chamber having a hydraulic fluid;

a fluid reservoir coupled to the hydraulic pump chamber and configured to contain a fluid deliverable to a patient;

a first actuator coupled to the hydraulic pump chamber and configured to pressurize the hydraulic pump chamber and configured to transfer energy through the hydraulic pump chamber to the fluid reservoir; and

a second actuator coupled to the hydraulic pump chamber and configured to pressurize the hydraulic pump chamber and configured to transfer energy through the hydraulic pump chamber to the fluid reservoir.

3. The fluid delivery device of claim 2, further comprising a hydraulic basal chamber coupled between the first actuator and the hydraulic pump chamber and a flow restrictor fluidly coupling the hydraulic basal chamber and the hydraulic pump chamber.

4. The fluid delivery device of claim 3, wherein the flow restrictor is configured to transfer energy from the hydraulic basal chamber to the hydraulic pump chamber to deliver the fluid from the fluid reservoir at a sustained basal rate.

5. The fluid delivery device of claim 4, wherein the sustained basal rate is relatively constant.

6. The fluid delivery device of claim 4, wherein the sustained basal rate is over a period of more than 5 hours.

7. The fluid delivery device of claim 4, wherein the sustained basal rate is over a period of approximately 24 hours.

8. The fluid delivery device of claim 2, further comprising a hydraulic basal chamber coupled between the first and second actuators and the hydraulic pump chamber and a flow restrictor fluidly coupling the hydraulic basal chamber and the hydraulic pump chamber.

9. The fluid delivery device of claim 8, wherein the first and second actuators are compression springs.

10. The fluid delivery device of claim 8, wherein the first and second actuators are coupled to the hydraulic pump chamber in parallel.

11. The fluid delivery device of claim 2, wherein the second actuator is configured to selectably pressurize the hydraulic pump chamber to deliver a bolus dosage of the fluid in addition to the sustained basal rate

12. The fluid delivery device of claim 2, further comprising a moveable piston separating the hydraulic pump chamber and the fluid reservoir.

13. The fluid delivery device of claim 2, wherein the first actuator includes one or more springs.

14. The fluid delivery device of claim 2, wherein the fluid deliverable to the patient is insulin.

15. The fluid delivery device of claim 2, wherein the hydraulic fluid has a viscosity of approximately ISO VG 1500 or more when in use.

16. The fluid delivery device of claim 2, further comprising a moveable plunger separating the pump chamber and the first actuator.

17. The fluid delivery device of claim 2, wherein the pump chamber and the fluid reservoir are comprised of a polymer.
