Abstract

A computer-implemented method, system and computer program product of designing views of portlets are presented. The computer-implemented method, which is executed on a specific processor, receives, from a client, multiple requirements for portlets and views of a portal application. Common business components are then extracted from the multiple requirements, and the business components are classified into categories of containers, data entry forms, or tables. A library of implemented common business components is created and provided to multiple developers, who are then able to design the views of the portlets, such that the portal application views will have a similar look and feel.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method of designing views of portlets for a portal application, the computer-implemented method comprising the steps of:

configuring a specific processor with computer-executable instructions, that when executed, perform the steps of;

receiving, from a client, multiple rules for portlets and views of a portal application;

extracting common business components from the multiple rules, wherein the business components are classified into categories of containers;

creating a library of implemented common business components; and

providing the library to multiple developers to design the views of the portlets, wherein the views will have a similar look and feel within the portal application.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the business components are further classified into categories of data entry forms.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the business components are further classified into categories of tables.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the multiple rules describe how a twisty and a tab are to be uniformly customized in the portlets.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the multiple rules describe how a data input form, a data display form, a data display table, and a double header data display table are to be uniformly customized in the portlets.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the multiple rules describe how a button is to be uniformly customized in the portlets.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein calling a software program that executes steps in the computer-implemented method results in a reconfiguration of a VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL) chip, wherein a resulting reconfigured VHDL chip is a hardware chip that performs steps of the computer-implemented method without executing any software.

8. A tangible computer-readable storage medium on which is encoded a computer program, the computer program comprising computer executable instructions configured for designing views of portlets by:

receiving from a client, multiple rules for portlets and views of a portal application;

extracting common business components from the multiple rules, wherein the business components are classified into categories of containers;

creating a library of implemented common business components; and

providing the library to multiple developers to design the views of the portlets, wherein the views will have a similar look and feel within the portal application.

9. The tangible computer-readable storage medium of claim 8, wherein the business components are further classified into categories of data entry forms.

10. The tangible computer-readable storage medium of claim 8, wherein the business components are further classified into categories of tables.

11. The tangible computer-readable storage medium of claim 8, wherein the multiple rules describe how a twisty and a tab are to be uniformly customized in the portlets.

12. The tangible computer-readable storage medium of claim 8, wherein the multiple rules describe how a data input form, a data display table, and a double header data display table are to be uniformly customized in the portlets.

13. The tangible computer-readable storage medium of claim 8, wherein the multiple rules describe how a button is to be uniformly customized in the portlets.

14. A system comprising:

a processor;

a tangible computer-readable storage medium on which are stored computer-executable instructions, wherein the computer-executable instructions, when executed, perform a computer-executable method comprising;

receiving from a client, multiple rules for portlets and views of a portal application;

extracting common business components from the multiple rules, wherein the business components are classified into categories of containers;

creating a library of implemented common business components; and

providing the library to multiple developers to design the views of the portlets, wherein the views will have a similar look and feel within the portal application.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the business components are further classified into categories of data entry forms.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the business components are further classified into categories of tables.

17. The system of claim 14, wherein the multiple rules describe how a twisty and a tab are to be uniformly customized in the portlets.

18. The system of claim 14, wherein the multiple rules describe how a data input form, a data display form, a data display table, and a double header data display table are to be uniformly customized in the portlets.

19. The system of claim 14, wherein the multiple rules describe how a button is to be uniformly customized in the portlets.

20. The system of claim 14, wherein calling a software program that executes steps in the computer-implemented method results in a reconfiguration of a VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL) chip, wherein a resulting reconfigured VHDL chip is a hardware chip that performs steps of the computer-implemented method without executing any software.
