Abstract

Embodiments relate to systems and methods for managing third-party application programming interfaces in a collaboration space. A collaboration space, such as a wiki site, can host a set of collaboration tools and resources, including, for example, content tools, communication tools, and other resources for the users of the space. The collaboration space can also incorporate and expose a set of application programming interfaces, such as command and data-passing structures to permit users to invoke third-party applications and/or services from within the wiki site or other collaboration space. The set of applications/services be hosted on a remote server or co-hosted on the collaboration server, and can include, for instance, database, spreadsheet, media content, or other applications or services. The invoked applications/services can return data to the requesting user via the collaboration space. Users can subscribe to different applications and/or services available via the collaboration space.

Claims

1. A method of managing a collaboration space, comprising:

providing a collaboration space to a set of users via a network; and

hosting a set of application programming interfaces in the collaboration space, the set of application programming interfaces permitting the set of users to invoke at least one application or service via the collaboration space.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the collaboration space comprises a wiki site.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of application programming interfaces comprises a library of commands associated with the at least one application or service.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the library of commands comprises at least one specifier for an exchanged parameter.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one application or service is hosted on a remote application server.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one application or service is hosted on a server hosting the collaboration space.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising authenticating a user request to invoke the at least one application or service.

8. A system for managing a collaboration space, comprising:

an interface to a set of users via network;

a collaboration hosting engine, communicating with the set of users via the interface, the collaboration hosting engine being configured to—

provide a collaboration space to a set of users via the network, and

host a set of application programming interfaces in the collaboration space, the set of application programming interfaces permitting the set of users to invoke at least one application or service via the collaboration space.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the collaboration space comprises a wiki site.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein the set of application programming interfaces comprises a library of commands associated with the at least one application or service.

12. The system of claim 8, wherein the at least one application or service is hosted on a remote application server.

13. The system of claim 8, wherein the at least one application or service is hosted on the collaboration hosting engine.

14. The system of claim 8, wherein the collaboration hosting engine is further configured to authenticate a user request to invoke the at least one application or service.

11. The system of claim 11, wherein the library of commands comprises at least one specifier for an exchanged parameter.

15. A computer-readable storage medium, the computer-readable storage medium storing a set of output data generated via a collaboration space, the set of output data being generated via a method comprising:

providing a collaboration space to a set of users via a network; and

hosting a set of application programming interfaces in the collaboration space;

invoking at least one application or service via the set of applications programming interfaces hosted in the collaboration space;

transmitting user-supplied data to the at least one application or service via the set of application programming interfaces; and

transmitting a set of output data generated by the at least one application or service to a user via the collaboration space.

16. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the collaboration space comprises a wiki site.

17. The computer-readable storage medium of of claim 15, wherein the set of application programming interfaces comprises a library of commands associated with the at least one application or service.

18. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the library of commands comprises at least one specifier for an exchanged parameter.

19. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the at least one application or service is hosted on a remote application server.

20. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the at least one application or service is hosted on a server hosting the collaboration space.
