1. A method for controlling a sleep mode operation by a Mobile Station (MS) in a communication system, the method comprising:

  • when there is no data that the MS transmits or receives to/from a Base Station (BS) for a preset number of frames from an A-th frame of a listening interval, operating in a sleep state from a B-th frame corresponding to a preset number after the A-th frame, wherein the sleep mode is divided into the listening interval corresponding to an awake state and a sleep window corresponding to the sleep state, and the listening interval and the sleep window are divided on a frame-by-frame basis; and

    operating in a listening state during the preset number of frames from a (C+1)-th frame, when the MS transmits or receives data to/from the BS in a C-th frame of the listening interval.
