Abstract

The present invention relates generally to systems and methods for measuring an analyte in a host. More particularly, the present invention relates to systems and methods for transcutaneous measurement of glucose in a host.

Claims

1. A method for calibrating a continuous glucose sensor, comprising:

receiving sensor data from a continuous glucose sensor, wherein the sensor data is indicative of a glucose concentration in a host;

receiving predetermined calibration information, wherein the predetermined calibration information comprises predetermined baseline information associated with the continuous glucose sensor; and

calibrating the continuous glucose sensor based on the predetermined calibration information.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the predetermined baseline information is derived from in vivo testing of at least one other continuous glucose sensor.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving reference data from a reference glucose monitor, wherein the calibrating is further based on the reference data.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the reference data comprises a single reference data point from the reference glucose monitor, and wherein the calibrating is based on the single reference data point and the predetermined calibration information.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the predetermined calibration information further comprises predetermined sensitivity information.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the calibrating is performed without reference data from a reference glucose monitor.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the calibrating is based on a conversion function comprising a sensitivity value and a baseline value, and wherein the method further comprises validating the conversion function based on at least one of the predetermined baseline information or a predetermined sensitivity information.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising determining an error if the validation fails.

9. The method of claim 7, further comprising requesting reference data if the validation fails.

10. The method of claim 7, further comprising adjusting the conversion function if the validation fails.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein adjusting the conversion function comprises adjusting the baseline value of the conversion function.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein adjusting the baseline value is based on the predetermined baseline information.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the predetermined baseline information is derived from in vitro testing.

14. A system for calibrating a continuous glucose sensor, comprising:

a continuous glucose sensor configured to provide sensor data indicative of a glucose concentration in a host; and

a processor module configured to calibrate the sensor data based on predetermined calibration information, wherein the predetermined calibration information comprises predetermined baseline information associated with the continuous glucose sensor.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the predetermined baseline information is derived from in vivo testing of at least one other continuous glucose sensor.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the processor module is further configured to calibrate the sensor data based on reference data from a reference glucose monitor.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the reference data comprises a single reference data point from the reference glucose monitor, and wherein the processor module is further configured to calibrate the sensor data based on the single reference data point and the predetermined calibration information.

18. The system of claim 14, wherein the predetermined calibration information further comprises predetermined sensitivity information.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the processor module is further configured to calibrate the sensor data without reference data from a reference glucose monitor.

20. The system of claim 18, wherein the calibration is based on a conversion function comprising a baseline value and a sensitivity value, and wherein the processor module is configured to validate the conversion function based on at least one of the predetermined sensitivity information or the predetermined baseline information.

21. The system of claim 20, wherein the processor module is configured to detect an error if the validation fails.

22. The system of claim 20, wherein the processor module is configured to request reference data if the validation fails.

23. The system of claim 20, wherein the processor module is configured to adjust the conversion function if the validation fails.

24. The system of claim 23, wherein the processor module is configured to adjust the conversion function by adjusting the baseline value of the conversion function.

25. The system of claim 14, wherein the calibration is based on a conversion function comprising a baseline value and a sensitivity value, and wherein the processor module is configured to adjust the baseline value based on the predetermined baseline information.

26. The system of claim 14, wherein the predetermined baseline information is derived from in vitro testing.

27. The system of claim 14, further comprising:

a transmitter unit operably coupled to the glucose sensor, the transmitter unit having a radio frequency transmitter configured to wirelessly transmit sensor data; and

a receiver unit comprising a radio frequency receiver and a display, the radio frequency receiver configured to receive the transmitted sensor data and the display configured to display information based on the transmitted sensor data.

28. The system of claim 27, wherein the processor module is incorporated in the transmitter unit, wherein the processor module is configured to calibrate the sensor data prior to the sensor data being transmitted by the radio frequency transmitter.
