Abstract
A method and apparatus for managing bookmark information of a media server through a network based on the UPnP AV standard is disclosed. If a request for bookmarking a content item is made, a bookmark item is created and the created bookmark item is linked to the content item by adding the ID of the created bookmark item to the property information of the content item and recording the ID of the content item to be bookmarked in the created bookmark item.

19. A method performed by a server for creating and managing a bookmark item, the method comprising:

creating the bookmark item using transporting state information and rendering state information associated with playback of a content item, the bookmark item comprising a bookmark identifier (ID), the bookmark item being associated with the content item, and the associated content item being updated to include the bookmark ID; deleting the content item including the bookmark ID when a request to delete the content item is received from a controller unit; and deleting the bookmark item that comprises the bookmark ID included in the deleted content item, wherein the bookmark item is used for recovering the rendering state information and the transporting state information, and wherein the transporting state information and the rendering state information are transmitted from a player unit to the controller unit and transmitted from the controller unit to the server. - View Dependent Claims (20, 21)

22. A server for creating and managing a bookmark item, the server comprising:

an interface unit configured to at least transmit or receive data; and a control unit configured to create the bookmark item using transporting state information and rendering state information associated with playback of a content item, the bookmark item comprising a bookmark identifier (ID), the bookmark item being associated with the content item, and the associated content item being updated to include the bookmark ID; delete the content item including the bookmark ID when a request to delete the content item is received from a controller unit; and delete the bookmark item that comprises the bookmark ID included in the deleted content item, wherein the bookmark item is used for recovering the rendering state information and the transporting state information, and wherein the transporting state information and the rendering state information are transmitted from a player unit to the controller unit and transmitted from the controller unit to the server. - View Dependent Claims (23, 24)
