1. An automatic injection device for automatically administering a medicament upon actuation thereof, the device comprising:
- a housing;
a chamber disposed in the housing and having a first compartment and a second compartment, the first compartment containing a first component of the medicament and the second compartment containing a second component of the medicament;
a plunger rearwardly sealing the second compartment;
a seal structure between the first compartment and the second compartment, the seal structure initially in a sealing condition that seals the first compartment from the second compartment, the seal structure comprising a plug having a solid core and movable within the seal structure to convert the seal structure from the sealing condition to a mixing condition by opening a path between the first compartment and the second compartment through the seal structure, the plug maintaining the same orientation with respect to the seal structure as the plug moves to convert the seal structure from the sealing condition to the mixing condition;
a needle assembly connected to the first compartment; and
an activation assembly carried by the housing and operatively connected to the plunger, wherein activation of the activation assembly causes (1) the seal structure to convert from the sealing condition to the mixing condition and (2) the first and second medicament components to be mixed and forced through the needle assembly.

Abstract
An automatic medicament injector has a first compartment for a first medicament component and a second compartment for a second medicament component. The two compartments are separated by a seal structure that converts from a sealing condition to a mixing condition when the device is activated. The seal structure has a plug that opens a flow path through the seal structure to allow the second medicament component to mix with the first medicament component in the first compartment when the seal structure is in the mixing condition.

11. An automatic injection device containing a medicament for automatically administering the medicament upon actuation thereof, the device comprising:
-
a housing; a chamber disposed in the housing and having a first compartment and a second compartment, the first compartment containing a first component of the medicament and the second compartment containing a liquid component of the medicament; a seal structure between the first compartment and the second compartment, the seal structure initially in a sealed condition to maintain the first compartment separate from the second compartment, the seal structure converting to a mixing condition in response to activation of the device, the seal structure including; an outer sealing member that forms a peripheral seal with an interior wall of the chamber, and a plug spaced radially inward from the outer sealing member, the plug in a first position wherein the plug is sealingly engaged with a surface of the outer sealing member to foam a liquid-tight seal between the first and second compartments when the seal structure is in the sealed condition, the plug in a second position when the seal structure is in the mixing condition, the plug having a solid core and remaining stationary in the second position as the liquid component flows through the seal structure and thereafter; a needle assembly connected to the chamber; and an activation assembly disposed in the housing wherein activation of the activation assembly causes the seal structure to convert from the sealed condition to the mixing condition and causes the first and liquid medicament portions to be mixed and forced through the needle assembly. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
