Abstract

An accurate global positioning system having a receiver, a display screen, an input device, having capabilities for visual calibration of the system is disclosed. Further methods of operating that system are disclosed

Claims

1. A global positioning system comprising:

a. a global positioning system receiver;

b. a display screen; and

c. an input device;

d. wherein the display screen displays an indicated position of the global positioning system on a route image;

wherein the route image has sufficient detail to depict at least one delivery point representation;

wherein the route image displays a route representation and at least one landmark representation having sufficient proximity to the route representation to visually calibrate the global positioning system on at least one calibration point along a physical route;

wherein the indicated position of the global positioning system can be manually adjusted relative to the route image.

2. A method of delivery comprising:

a. viewing the route image of claim 1 on the global positioning system of claim 1;

b. operating the input device to change the indicated position relative to the route image; and

c. delivering at least one item to at least one physical delivery point.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein said at least one item is at least one newspaper.

4. The method of claim 2 wherein said at least one item is at least one package.

5. The method of claim 2 wherein a delivery point selected from said at least one physical delivery point is a driveway.

6. The method of claim 2 wherein a calibration point selected from said at least one calibration point is substantially adjacent to a physical landmark that is represented by a landmark representation selected from said at least one landmark representation.

7. The method of claim 2 wherein said at least one landmark representation is a series of multiple landmark representations with each member of the series being proximate to the route representation.

8. The method of claim 2 wherein said at least one calibration point is at least two calibration points.

9. The method of claim 2 wherein the route image consists essentially of:

a. said route representation;

b. a representation of any significant streets adjacent to the route;

c. said at least one landmark representation; and

d. said at least one delivery point representation.

10. The method of claim 2 wherein the image is a skeletal map of the physical route.

11. The method of claim 2 wherein

a. said at least one delivery point representation is at least two delivery point representations;

b. a first delivery point representation selected from said at least two delivery point representations has an indication of a first type of delivery;

c. a second delivery point representation selected from said at least two delivery point representations has an indication of a second type of delivery; and

d. the indication of a first type of delivery and the indication of a second type of delivery are distinct indications.

12. A method of delivering comprising:

a. viewing the route image of claim 1 on the global positioning system of claim 1;

b. comparing the spatial difference between a calibration point selected from said at least one calibration point and a physical landmark to the spatial difference between said indicated position and a landmark representation selected from said at least one landmark representation while at said calibration point selected from said at least one calibration point, wherein the landmark representation selected from said at least one landmark representation is a portrayal of said physical landmark;

c. operating the input device to change the indicated position relative to the route image in a way that causes the global positioning system to accurately reflect the indicated position relative to the route image; and

d. delivering at least one item to at least one physical delivery point when the indicated position is proximate to said at least one delivery point representation.
