Abstract

Online sale of software product use licenses through a data network by offering software products (SOFT) through vendor sites, purchasing a license on-line on one of said vendor sites, and activating said license on-line by a different licensing site. A specific component (COMP) is provided with the software product (SOFT) and identifying data (IDV) of the vendor site are transmitted during the download of the software product (SOFT). When the component (COMP) is executed in an equipment, the component (COMP) locally accesses said data (IDV) and identifying data (IDL) of the licensing site and activates the license by setting up an on-line communication with the licensing site.

43. A method involving the on-line purchase of a non-demonstration version of a software product from a first site by an electronic device, the method comprising:

downloading to the electronic device a demonstration version of the software product from the first site or from a second site associated with the first site, the first and second sites different from the software product manufacturer site, the demonstration version of the software product comprising executable instructions incorporated therein by the software product manufacturer that when executed in the electronic device produces one or more graphical interfaces in the electronic device useable to initiate a purchase of the non-demonstration version of the software product from the first site; and

initiating within the electronic device via a use of the one or more graphical interfaces a communication between the electronic device and the first site for the purpose of purchasing the non-demonstration version of the software product.

44. A method according to claim 43, further comprising transmitting identifying data of the first site and/or the second site to the electronic device.

45. A method according to claim 44, wherein the identifying data of the first site and/or the second site is transmitted to the electronic device during the downloading of the demonstration version of the software product to the electronic device.

46. A method according to claim 43, further comprising transmitting from the electronic device to the first site identifying data of the electronic device via the communication.

47. A method according to claim 43, further comprising transmitting from the first site or the second site to the electronic device purchase receipt data associated with the purchase of the non-demonstration version of the software product.

48. A method according to claim 47, wherein the purchase receipt data includes identifying data associated with the electronic device.

49. A method according to claim 43, wherein the executable instructions are a part of a component incorporated into the demonstration version of the software product.

50. A method for the on-line purchase of a non-demonstration version of a software product from a first site by an electronic device, the method comprising:

downloading to the electronic device a demonstration version of the software product from the first site or from a second site associated with the first site and also identifying data of the first site and/or second site, the first and second sites different from the software product manufacturer site, the demonstration version of the software product comprising executable instructions incorporated therein by the software product manufacturer that when executed in the electronic device produces one or more graphical interfaces in the electronic device useable to initiate a purchase of the non-demonstration version of the software product from the first site;

initiating within the electronic device via a use of the one or more graphical interfaces a communication between the electronic device and the first site for the purpose of purchasing the non-demonstration version of the software product and transmitting to the first site via the communication identifying data of the electronic device;

processing a purchase transaction of the non-demonstration version of the software product in the first site; and

transmitting to the electronic device purchase receipt data associated with the purchase of the non-demonstration version of the software product.

51. A method according to claim 50, wherein the identifying data of the first site and/or the second site is transmitted to the electronic device during the downloading of the demonstration version of the software product to the electronic device.

52. A method according to claim 50, wherein the purchase receipt data includes identifying data associated with the electronic device.

53. A method according to claim 50, wherein the executable instructions are a part of a component incorporated into the demonstration version of the software product.
