Abstract

A lamp includes an outer shell having heat conductivity, a base provided in the outer shell, and a cover provided in the outer shell. The outer shell has a light source support, and a heat radiating surface exposed to the outside of the outer shell. The light source support is formed integral with the heat radiating surface. A light source is supported on the light source support. The light source is heated during lighting, and thermally connected to the light source support. The light source is covered with the cover.

Claims

1. A lamp comprising:

an outer shell with heat conductivity which includes a light source support, a heat radiating surface exposed to the outside of the outer shell, and a receptacle provided inside the heat radiating surface and having an open end on the opposite side of the light source support, and the light source support formed integrally with the heat radiating surface;

a heat generating light source which is supported on the light source support, and thermally connected to the light source support;

a lighting circuit which lights the light source, the lighting circuit contained in the receptacle and having a circuit board on which circuit components are mounted;

a translucent cover which is provided in the outer shell so as to cover the light source;

a base which includes a metal base shell and a connecting member having electrical insulation fixed to the metal base shell, the connecting member having a distal end on which a first engaging portion is formed, wherein the base is connected to the outer shell by fitting the distal end inside the open end of the receptacle.

2. The lamp of claim 1, wherein the outer shell has a second engaging portion which is exposed to the inside of the receptacle, and when the distal end of the connecting member is fitted inside the open end of the receptacle, the first engaging portion engages with the second engaging portion.

3. The lamp of claim 1, wherein the connecting member is interposed between the outer shell and the metal base shell, insulating the outer shell and the metal base shell electrically and thermally.

4. The lamp of claim 3, wherein the connecting member has a peripheral surface which is continued to the heat radiating surface of the outer shell.

5. The lamp of claim 1, wherein the connecting member has a step against which the open end butts when the distal end is fitted inside the open end of the receptacle.

6. The lamp of claim 1, further comprising an electrical insulating layer interposed between the receptacle and the lighting circuit.

7. The lamp of claim 1, wherein the outer shell has an end wall partitioning the light source support and the receptacle, and a heat shielding gap is provided between the end wall and the electrical insulating layer.

The lamp of claim 1, wherein the outer shell has a recession surrounding the light source support, the translucent cover has an edge portion to tit in the recession, the edge portion of the translucent cover is fixed to the recession through an adhesive filled in the recession, and the recession filled with the adhesive is displaced from the light source to the opposite side of the translucent cover.

9. The lamp of claim 8, wherein the light source support includes a projection projecting from the recession to the translucent cover, the projection has a distal end surface exposed to the inside of the translucent cover, and light source is provided on the distal end surface.

10. The lamp of claim 1, wherein the light source is a light-emitting diode.
