Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure include a digit gauge used to ensure the size of a patient'"'"'s digit is appropriate for the medical sensor applied thereto.

Claims

1. A finger gauge comprising a tab including an opening sized to determine whether a cross-section of a patient'"'"'s digit is appropriate for a noninvasive sensor configured to output a signal indicative of light attenuated by said digit.

2. The finger gauge of claim 1 further comprising an association portion associating the gauge with the sensor.

3. A method of determining whether a sensor configured to output a signal indicative of light attenuated by said a monitored patient, the method comprising:

sliding a finger gauge onto a patient'"'"'s finger; and

determining whether to use an associated noninvasive optical sensor depending upon the fit of the gauge to said finger.

4. A method of providing optical sensors that include a finger sizing mechanism, the method comprising:

providing an optical sensor including a light source and a detector configured to output a signal indicative of an attenuation of light by a finger of a monitored patient; and

providing a finger gauge with said optical sensor.

5. The method of claim 4, comprising associating the finger gauge with said optical sensor.

6. The method of claim 5, comprising fixedly associating said gauge with said sensor.
