Abstract

Disclosed is a method and an advertising system for delivering advertisements in a mobile communication network. The method comprises detecting a need to deliver an advertisement, and arranging said delivery such that one or more indicators of advertisement behaviour specific to individual recipients of advertisements and/or to the overall system are taken into account, delivery of advertisements in mobile advertising system.

Claims

1. A method for delivering advertisements in a mobile communication network (103), the method comprising

detecting a need to deliver an advertisement, characterized in that the method further comprises

arranging said delivery such that one or more indicators of advertisement behaviour specific to individual recipients of advertisements and/or to the overall system are taken into account.

2. A method according to claim 1, wherein said advertisement behaviour comprises advertisement history and/or delivery schedule already agreed for certain advertisements.

3. A method according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said indicators comprise one or more of the following:

length of the advertisement text, total number of advertisements that have already been sent to said recipient, number of advertisements that have been sent to said recipient during certain period of time, number of times that particular advertisement has already been sent to said recipient, total number of times the advertisement has already been sent to any recipient, number of times the advertisement has already been sent to any recipient during certain period of time, advertisement bias, and similarity of said advertisement and the advertisements that have already been sent to said recipient.

4. A method according to any one of claims 1-3, wherein said indicators comprise one or more of the following:

opt-out windows defined for individual recipients, other advertisements scheduled for individual recipients, overall or recipient specific number of advertisements that have already been allocated to a time period.

5. A method according to any one of claims 1-4, the method further comprising

detecting a need to deliver an advertisement to a specific recipient,

ordering (2-5, 301-306) a set of advertisements that may be sent to said recipient in order of preference on the basis of said one or more indicators of advertisement behaviour,

selecting (2-5, 307) the most preferred advertisement, and

delivering said selected advertisement to said recipient.

6. A method according to claim 5, further comprising

excluding (302) from delivery an advertisement that was previously sent to the recipient.

7. A method according to claim 5 or 6, wherein said ordering and selecting comprise

computing (304) a score to the advertisements of the set, and selecting (307) the advertisement with the highest score.

8. A method according to any one of claims 1-4, the method further comprising

detecting a need to deliver an advertisement to a group of recipients over a certain period of time,

scheduling (401-406) delivery of the advertisement to individual recipients on the basis of said one or more indicators of advertisement behaviour, and

delivering (407) said advertisement as scheduled.

17. A memory medium comprising computer executable program code (503) adapted to enable an apparatus to perform the method of any of claims 1-8.

9. An advertising system (104, 500) for delivering advertisements in a mobile communication network (103), the advertising system comprising

a memory (502), and

a processing unit (501) coupled to the processing unit, the processing unit being configured to detect a need to deliver an advertisement, characterized in that the processing unit is further configured to

arrange said delivery such that one or more indicators of advertisement behaviour specific to individual recipients of advertisements and/or to the overall system are taken into account.

10. An advertising system according to claim 9, wherein said advertisement behaviour comprises advertisement history and/or delivery schedule already agreed for certain advertisements.

11. An advertising system according to claim 9 or 10, wherein said indicators comprise one or more of the following:

length of the advertisement text, total number of advertisements that have already been sent to said recipient, number of advertisements that have been sent to said recipient during certain period of time, number of times that particular advertisement has already been sent to said recipient, total number of times the advertisement has already been sent to any recipient, number of times the advertisement has already been sent to any recipient during certain period of time, advertisement bias, and similarity of said advertisement and the advertisements that have already been sent to said recipient.

12. An advertising system according to any one of claims 9-11, wherein said indicators comprise one or more of the following:

opt-out windows defined for individual recipients, other advertisements scheduled for individual recipients, overall or recipient specific number of advertisements that have already been allocated to a time period.

13. An advertising system according to any one of claims 9-12, wherein the processing unit is configured to

detect a need to deliver an advertisement to a specific recipient,

order a set of advertisements that may be sent to said recipient in order of preference on the basis of said one or more indicators of advertisement behaviour,

select the most preferred advertisement, and

deliver said selected advertisement to said recipient.

14. An advertising system according to claim 13, wherein the processing unit is further configured to

exclude from delivery an advertisement that was previously sent to the recipient.

15. An advertising system according to claim 13 or 14, wherein the processing unit is configured to conduct said ordering and selecting by computing a score to the advertisements of the set, and selecting the advertisement with the highest score.

16. An advertising system according to any one of claims 9-12, wherein the processing unit is configured to

detect a need to deliver an advertisement to a group of recipients over a certain period of time,

schedule delivery of the advertisement to individual recipients on the basis of said one or more indicators of advertisement behaviour, and

deliver said advertisement as scheduled.
