Abstract

A digital broadcasting system and a method of processing data is disclosed. A receiving system of the digital broad-casting system may include receiving system may include a signal receiving unit, a first data processor, a second data processor, and an audio/video (AN) decoder. The signal receiving unit receives at least one of first mobile service data transmitted in accordance with a first transmission mode and second mobile service data transmitted in accordance with a second transmission mode. The first data processor can correct an error generated in the first mobile service data by performing demodulation for the first mobile service data received in the signal receiving unit in accordance with a first demodulation mode and performing CRC (cyclic redundancy check) decoding and RS decoding for RS (Reed-Solomon) of the demodulated first mobile service data. The second data processor can correct an error generated in the second mobile service data by performing demodulation for the second mobile service data received in the signal receiving unit in accordance with a second demodulation mode and performing CRC decoding and RS decoding for a code block of the demodulated second mobile service data. The AN decoder can perform AN decoding for the mobile service data output from the first data processor and the second data processor.

Claims

1. A receiving system comprising:

a signal receiving unit receiving at least one of first mobile service data transmitted in accordance with a first transmission mode and second mobile service data transmitted in accordance with a second transmission mode;

a first data processor correcting an error generated in the first mobile service data by performing demodulation for the first mobile service data received in the signal receiving unit in accordance with a first demodulation mode and performing CRC (cyclic redundancy check) decoding and RS decoding for RS(Reed-Solomon) of the demodulated first mobile service data;

a second data processor correcting an error generated in the second mobile service data by performing demodulation for the second mobile service data received in the signal receiving unit in accordance with a second demodulation mode and performing CRC decoding and RS decoding for a code block of the demodulated second mobile service data; and

an A/V decoder performing A/V decoding for the mobile service data output from the first data processor and the second data processor.

The receiving system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first mobile service data constitute RS frame, the RS frame including at least one data packet for the first mobile service data, RS parity generated based on the at least one data packet, and CRC checksum generated based on the at least one data packet and the RS parity.

The receiving system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the second mobile service data constitute a code block, the code block including at least one data packet for the second mobile service data, RS parity generated based on the at least one data packet, and CRC checksum generated based on the at least one data packet and the RS parity.

4. The receiving system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the signal receiving unit further includes a tuner receiving first mobile service data transmitted in accordance with a first transmission mode and second mobile service data transmitted in accordance with a second transmission mode.

5. The receiving system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the signal receiving unit further includes an A/D converter digitalizing the received first mobile service data and second mobile service data.

6. The receiving system as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:

a signal identifying unit identifying a transmission mode of the mobile service data received in the signal receiving unit; and

a demultiplexer outputting the first mobile service data received in the signal receiving unit to the first data processor and the second mobile service data received in the signal receiving unit to the second data processor in accordance with the identified result of the signal identifying unit.

7. The receiving system as claimed in claim 6, wherein the signal identifying unit identifies, using channel allocation information, whether the mobile service data are received in the signal receiving unit in accordance with the first transmission mode or the second transmission mode.

The receiving system as claimed in claim 6, further comprising a known data detector detecting known data linearly inserted into at least one data group constituting the RS frame, wherein the signal identifying unit identifies, in accordance with detection of the known data, whether the mobile service data are received in the signal receiving unit in accordance with the first transmission mode or the second transmission mode.

The receiving system as claimed in claim 8, wherein the data group is divided into a plurality of regions, known data sequences are linearly inserted into a part of the plurality of regions, and initialization data are located at a start part of the known data sequences, the initialization data being used to initiate a memory within a trellis encoder of a transmitter.

10. The receiving system as claimed in claim 8, wherein the first data processor includes:

a first demodulator demodulating the first mobile service data in inverse order of a VSB modulation mode;

a first channel equalizer compensating channel distortion using the detected known data, the channel distortion being generated in the demodulated first mobile service data; and

a first decoder performing CRC decoding and RS decoding for RS frame of the channel-equalized first mobile service data and outputting the RS frame for A/V decoding.

11. The receiving system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the second data processor includes:

a second demodulator demodulating the second mobile service data in inverse order of an OFDM modulation mode;

a second channel equalizer compensating channel distortion generated in the demodulated second mobile service data; and

a second decoder performing CRC decoding and RS decoding for a code block of the channel-equalized second mobile service data and outputting the decoded code block for A/V decoding.

12. A data processing method of a receiving system, the data processing method comprising:

receiving at least one of first mobile service data transmitted in accordance with a first transmission mode and second mobile service data transmitted in accordance with a second transmission mode;

identifying the transmission mode of the received mobile service data;

correcting an error generated in the first mobile service data by performing demodulation for the first mobile service data in accordance with a first demodulation mode and performing CRC decoding and RS decoding for RS of the demodulated first mobile service data, in accordance with the identified result;

correcting an error generated in the second mobile service data by performing demodulation for the second mobile service data in accordance with a second demodulation mode and performing CRC decoding and RS decoding for a code block of the demodulated second mobile service data, in accordance with the identified result; and

performing A/V decoding for the mobile service data output from the steps of correcting the error generated in the first mobile service data and correcting the error generated in the second mobile service data.

The data processing method as claimed in claim 12, wherein the first mobile service data constitute RS frame, the RS frame including at least one data packet for the first mobile service data, RS parity generated based on the at least one data packet, and CRC checksum generated based on the at least one data packet and the RS parity.

The data processing method as claimed in claim 12, wherein the second mobile service data constitute a code block, the code block including at least one data packet for the second mobile service data, RS parity generated based on the at least one data packet, and CRC checksum generated based on the at least one data packet and the RS parity.

15. A receiving system comprising:

a signal receiving unit for receiving at least one of first mobile service data transmitted in accordance with a first transmission mode and second mobile service data transmitted in accordance with a second transmission mode other than the first transmission mode;

a first data processor for demodulating the received first mobile service data in accordance with a first demodulation mode, performing a first error correction decoding on the demodulated first mobile service data, and correcting an error generated in the first mobile service data;

a second data processor for demodulating the received second mobile service data in accordance with a second demodulation mode, performing a second error correction decoding other than the first error correction decoding on the demodulated second mobile service data, and correcting an error generated in the second mobile service data; and

an A/V decoder for performing audio/video (AN) decoding on at least one of the error-corrected first mobile service data and the error-corrected second mobile service data.

16. A data processing method of a receiving system, the data processing method comprising:

receiving at least one of first mobile service data transmitted in accordance with a first transmission mode and second mobile service data transmitted in accordance with a second transmission mode other than the first transmission mode;

demodulating the received first mobile service data in accordance with a first demodulation mode;

performing a first error correction decoding on the demodulated first mobile service data and correcting an error generated in the first mobile service data;

demodulating the received second mobile service data in accordance with a second demodulation mode;

performing a second error correction decoding other than the first error correction decoding on the demodulated second mobile service data and correcting an error generated in the second mobile service data; and

performing audio/video (AN) decoding on at least one of the error-corrected first mobile service data and the error-corrected second mobile service data.

17. The data processing method as claimed in claim 16, wherein the first mobile service data form an Reed-Solomon (RS) frame, the RS frame comprising at least one data packet including the first mobile service data, RS parity data generated based on the at least one data packet, and Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) checksum data generated based on the at least one data packet and the RS parity data.

18. The data processing method as claimed in claim 17, wherein performing the first error correction decoding corrects the error generated in the first mobile service data by performing CRC decoding and RS decoding by the RS frame based upon the CRC checksum data and the RS parity data.

19. The data processing method as claimed in claim 16, wherein receiving the mobile service data comprises:

receiving the first mobile service data and the second mobile service data using a single tuner.

20. The data processing method as claimed in claim 16, wherein receiving the mobile service data comprises:

receiving the first mobile service data and the second mobile service data using each of tuners.

21. The data processing method as claimed in claim 16, further comprising:

identifying the transmission mode of the received mobile service data.

22. The data processing method as claimed in claim 21, further comprising:

outputting the received first mobile service data to demodulate in accordance with the first demodulation mode if the identified transmission mode indicates the first transmission mode; and

outputting the received second mobile service data to demodulate in accordance with the second demodulation mode if the identified transmission mode indicates the second transmission mode.

23. The data processing method as claimed in claim 21, wherein identifying the transmission mode identifies, using channel allocation information, whether the mobile service data are received in accordance with the first transmission mode or the second transmission mode.

24. The data processing method as claimed in claim 21, further comprising:

detecting known data having a pre-determined pattern by a pre-agreement between transmitting and receiving systems, the known data being multiplexed with the first mobile service data and being received in accordance with the first transmission mode.

25. The data processing method as claimed in claim 24, wherein identifying the transmission mode, if the known data is detected, identifies that the received mobile service data correspond to the first mobile service data received in accordance with the first transmission mode.

26. The data processing method as claimed in claim 24, further comprising:

compensating for channel distortion of the demodulated first mobile service data using the detected known data.

27. The data processing method as claimed in claim 16, wherein demodulating the received first mobile service data demodulates the first mobile service data in inverse order of a VSB modulation mode.

28. The data processing method as claimed in claim 16, wherein performing AN decoding on the mobile service data comprises:

performing AN decoding on one of the error-corrected first mobile service data and the error-corrected second mobile service data, and displaying the AN decoded mobile service data on a screen.

29. The data processing method as claimed in claim 16, wherein performing A/V decoding on the mobile service data comprises:

performing A/V decoding on the error-corrected first mobile service data and the error-corrected second mobile service data, and displaying the A/V decoded first mobile service data and the A/V decoded second mobile service data on a screen at the same time.
