1. An apparatus for remote surveillance, comprising:
- a capturing unit;
a location-sensor;
a processing unit coupled to the capturing unit;
a storage unit coupled to the processing unit, the capturing unit, and the location-sensor;
wherein, when in operation, the capturing unit captures a recording of surrounding environment and events occurring therein for storage in the storage unit;
wherein, the location-sensor identifies location data for storage in the storage unit;
a network component;
a controller coupled to the storage unit;
a motion detector coupled to the controller, the motion detector detects a triggering event;
wherein, upon detection of the triggering event, the controller enables the recording to be streamed in real time via a network connection established by the network component.

Apparatuses for remote surveillance and the applications therefor are described here. In one aspect, embodiments of the present disclosure include an apparatus for remote surveillance. The apparatus includes a capturing unit, a location-sensor, a processing unit coupled to the capturing unit, a storage unit coupled to the processing unit, the capturing unit, and the location-sensor. the capturing unit captures a recording of surrounding environment and events occurring therein for storage in the storage unit and the location-sensor identifies location data for storage in the storage unit. One embodiment of the apparatus further includes a network component, a controller coupled to the storage unit, and/or a motion detector coupled to the controller. Upon detection of a triggering event, the controller enables the recording to be streamed in real time via a network connection established by the network component.

39. An method for remote monitoring, the method, comprising:

continuously capturing a first video recording of surrounding environment and events occurring therein at a first resolution; storing the video recording in a storage unit at the first resolution; in response to detecting an occurrence of a triggering event, capturing the second video recording of the surrounding environment and events occurring after the triggering event at a second resolution that is higher than the first resolution; storing the second video recording in the storage unit at the second resolution; creating a copy of the second video recording and storing the copy of the second video recording; generating a compressed version of the second video by compressing the copy of the second video to a lower resolution; streaming the compressed version of the second video over a network. - View Dependent Claims (40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45)
