Abstract

A distributed historian framework is provided where historical data is collected in accordance with an organizational model of a hierarchical system that is distributed across various elements of an enterprise. A directory service operates with the organizational model to enable configuration of historian components within the organization and to enable data to be located within the organization. In one aspect, an industrial automation system is provided. The system includes at least one historian component to archive data within an organization. A common data model then exposes functionality and data of the organization to the historian component.

Claims

1. A computer readable medium comprising:

computer instructions that implements a graphical user interface for a micro-historian embedded at the rack level of an industrial controller, the interface comprising;

an input object to configure the micro-historian;

an output object to display data associated with the micro-historian; and

a hierarchy object to link the data associated with the micro-historian to a common data model for an enterprise.

2. The medium of claim 1, wherein the common data model comprises a plant level and an embedded level.

3. The medium of claim 2, wherein the data associated with the micro-historian is linked to the embedded level.

4. The medium of claim 3, wherein the common data model is based on one of the ISA-88 standard or the ISA-95 standard.

5. The medium of claim 3, wherein the interface further comprises a diagnostics component that monitors statistics on data categories that include collection status, system utilization, and alerts.

6. The medium of claim 3, wherein the input object comprises a window to add a data collection plan for the micro-historian, the data collection plan having associated data points and collection rates.

7. The medium of claim 6, wherein the interface further comprises a field to identify an equipment model, diagnostics, chassis configuration, administrative settings or report features.

8. The medium of claim 1, wherein the data associated with the micro-historian comprises the slot address of the micro-historian at the rack level.

9. A graphical user interface for a micro-historian embedded at the rack level of a first industrial controller communicatively coupled to at least one of an I/O module or a second controller for control over an industrial process, the micro-historian being configured to collect data related to the input and/or output data of the first industrial controller, the interface comprising:

a processing component configured to;

present an input object to create a data collection plan for the micro-historian, the data collection plan comprising data points to be collected by the micro-historian;

present an output object to display data collected by the micro-historian; and

present one or more hierarchy objects that link the data collection plan and the collected data to a common data model for an enterprise.

10. The interface of claim 9, wherein the input object further comprises a field to identify the slot address of the micro-historian at the rack level.

11. The interface of claim 9, wherein the common data model is based on one of the ISA-88 standard or the ISA-95 standard.

12. The interface of claim 9, wherein the input object further allows configuring the micro-historian with an equipment model, diagnostics, chassis configuration, administrative settings or report features.

13. The interface of claim 9, wherein the output object further displays an asset utilization, a product quality, a production plan, or a plant-to-plant data comparison between different geographical locations.

14. The interface of claim 9, wherein the processing component is further configured to present alarm information related to the data collected by the micro-historian.

15. A computer-implemented method in which at least one computer system accesses instructions from computer storage and executes the instructions to perform the steps comprising:

presenting an input object to configure a micro-historian embedded at the rack level of an industrial controller;

displaying data associated with the micro-historian; and

displaying a hierarchy object that links the data associated with the micro-historian to a common data model for an enterprise.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the common data model is based on one of the ISA-88 standard or the ISA-95 standard.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the data associated with the micro-historian comprises the slot address of the micro-historian at the rack level.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein the input object comprises a window to add a data collection plan for the micro-historian, the data collection plan having associated data points and collection rates.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein the data associated with the micro-historian is an equipment model, diagnostics, chassis configuration, administrative settings or report features.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein the data associated with the micro-historian is an asset utilization, a product quality, a production plan, or a plant-to-plant data comparison between different geographical locations.
