Abstract

A method to display a projected parametric curve upon a substantially transparent windscreen head-up display includes monitoring a desired parametric curve comprising a plurality of control points and a plurality of graphic segments based upon the control points, determining a luminance indicator for each of the segments, and utilizing the luminance indicator to command uniform luminance among the plurality of graphic segments.

Claims

1. A method to display a projected parametric curve upon a substantially transparent windscreen head-up display, the method comprising:

monitoring a desired parametric curve comprising a plurality of control points and a plurality of graphic segments based upon the control points;

determining a luminance indicator for each of the segments; and

utilizing the luminance indicator to command uniform luminance among the plurality of graphic segments.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of graphic segments is not required to pass through the control points.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein determining a luminance indicator comprises:

determining an effective scan length of each of the plurality of graphic segments;

wherein a luminance intensity is increased for graphic segments having longer effective scan lengths; and

wherein the luminance intensity is decreased for graphic segments having shorter effective scan lengths.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein determining a luminance indicator comprises:

determining a radius of curvature of each of the plurality of graphic segments;

wherein a luminance intensity is increased for graphic segments having larger radius of curvatures; and

wherein the luminance intensity is decreased for graphic segments having shorter radius of curvatures.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein determining a luminance indicator comprises:

determining an effective scan length of each of the plurality of graphic segments;

wherein a scan time is increased for graphic segments having longer effective scan lengths; and

wherein the scan time is decreased for graphic segments having shorter effective scan lengths.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein determining a luminance indicator comprises:

determining a radius of curvature of each of the plurality of graphic segments;

wherein a scan time is increased for graphic segments having larger radius of curvatures; and

wherein the scan time is decreased for graphic segments having shorter radius of curvatures.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein determining a luminance indicator comprises:

determining an effective scan length of each of the plurality of graphic segments;

wherein a scan speed is decreased for graphic segments having longer effective scan lengths; and

wherein the scan speed is increased for graphic segments having shorter effective scan lengths.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein determining a luminance indicator comprises:

determining a radius of curvature of each of the plurality of graphic segments;

wherein a scan speed is decreased for graphic segments having larger radius of curvatures; and

wherein the scan speed is increased for graphic segments having shorter radius of curvatures.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein determining a luminance indicator comprises:

determining an effective scan length of each of the plurality of graphic segments;

wherein a luminance intensity is increased for graphic segments having larger radius of curvatures; and

wherein the luminance intensity is decreased for graphic segments having shorter radius of curvatures.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein determining a luminance indicator comprises:

determining a radius of curvature of each of the plurality ofgraphic segments;

wherein a luminance intensity is increased for graphic segments having larger radius of curvatures; and

wherein the luminance intensity is decreased for graphic segments having shorter radius of curvatures.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein utilizing the luminance indicator to command uniform luminance among the plurality of graphic segments comprises:

reparameterizing the parametric curve comprising;

arranging a plurality of new equidistantly spaced control points; and

arranging a plurality of new graphic segments based on the plurality of new equidistantly spaced control points;

wherein each of the plurality of new graphic segments comprises a uniform effective scan length;

wherein the luminance indicator is directly proportional to effective scan length.

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising utilizing a reduced luminance intensity command for each of the plurality of control points.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising utilizing a zero luminance intensity command for each of the plurality of control points.

14. The method of claim 11, further comprising utilizing a reduced luminance intensity command for each of the plurality of new equidistantly spaced control points.

15. The method of claim 11, further comprising utilizing a zero luminance intensity command for each of the plurality of new equidistantly spaced control points.

16. A method to display a projected parametric curve upon a substantially transparent windscreen head-up display, the method comprising:

monitoring a desired parametric curve comprising a plurality of non-equidistantly spaced control points and a plurality of graphic segments based upon said control points, each of the plurality of graphic segments comprising an equal scan speed;

determining a luminance indicator for each of the plurality of graphic segments; and

utilizing the luminance indicator to command uniform luminance among the plurality of graphic segments.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the energy imparted across each of the graphic segments is substantially equal.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the energy imparted comprises photonic energy.

19. The method of claim 16, wherein determining the luminance indicator comprises:

determining an effective scan length of each of the plurality ofgraphic segments;

wherein a scan speed is decreased for graphic segments having longer effective scan lengths; and

wherein the scan speed is increased for graphic segments having shorter effective scan lengths.

20. The method of claim 16, wherein the distance between each of the plurality of non-equidistantly spaced control point decreases as the radius of curvature on the desired parametric curve decreases.

21. The method of claim 16, wherein the desired parametric curve is a non-uniform-rational b-spline parametric curve.

22. An apparatus to display a projected parametric curve upon a substantially transparent windscreen head-up display, the apparatus comprising:

a graphics system for

monitoring a desired parametric curve comprising a plurality of control points and a plurality of graphic segments, each based on the control points;

monitoring luminance intensity of each of the plurality of graphic segments;

adjusting luminance intensity of each of the plurality of graphic segment based on said monitored luminance intensity;

modifying the parametric curve based on the adjusted luminance intensity; and

a graphics projection system projecting the projected parametric curve upon the substantially transparent windscreen head-up display based on the modified luminance intensity.
