Abstract

Aspects of a syringe for use with a medical injector system. The hub having an outer surface adapted to slidingly engage with a barrel of the syringe, and an inner surface having a substantially annular engaging portion adapted to be releasably engaged by a plunger to permit the hub to be selectively withdrawn along the barrel by the plunger.

Claims

1. A syringe for use with a medical injector system, comprising:

a hub having an outer surface adapted to slidingly engage with a barrel of the syringe; and

an inner surface having a substantially annular engaging portion adapted to be releasably engaged by a plunger to permit the hub to be selectively withdrawn along the barrel by the plunger.

2. The syringe according to claim 1 wherein the substantially annular engaging portion defines a cavity.

3. The syringe according to claim 1 wherein the substantially annular engaging portion comprises a groove.

4. The syringe according to claim 3 wherein the groove extends at least partially along the circumference of the inner surface of the hub.

5. The syringe according to claim 1 wherein the engaging portion is a ridge.

6. The syringe according to claim 1 wherein the inner surface of the hub is complementary in shape to an outer surface of the plunger.

7. The syringe according to claim 6 wherein the inner surface comprises an interior hollow that contacts the plunger.

8. The syringe according to claim 1 wherein the hub comprises a seal.

9. The syringe according to claim 8 wherein the seal has an extended leading edge to increase the efficiency of the seal under pressure.

10. The syringe of claim 1 further including a seal disposed on the hub comprising:

an outer surface adapted to slidingly engage with a barrel of the syringe; and

an inner surface adapted to engage the hub,

wherein the hub comprises an outer surface adapted to engage the seal and an inner surface having a substantially annular engaging portion comprising a groove adapted to be releasably engaged by a plunger to permit the hub and seal combination to be selectively withdrawn along the barrel by the plunger,

wherein the inner surface of the hub is complementary in shape to an outer surface of the plunger.

11. The syringe of claim 10 wherein the engaging portion defines a cavity.

12. The syringe of claim 10 wherein the groove extends around the entire inner circumference of the inner surface.

13. The syringe of claim 10 wherein the engaging portion is a ridge.

14. The syringe of claim 10 wherein the inner surface comprises an interior hollow that contacts the plunger.

15. The syringe of claim 10 wherein the seal has an extended leading edge to increase the efficiency of the seal under pressure.
