Abstract

A central processor for a camera having printing capabilities includes a CPU core for interpreting a programming script inputted thereto; a vector processor connected to the CPU core via a data cache, the vector processor for executing image processing processes instructed by the programming script; an input buffer connected to the vector processor; an image sensor interface adapted to write data to the input buffer for processing by the vector processor; an output buffer connected to the vector processor, the output buffer receiving data processed by the vector processor; and a printhead interface adapted to read processed data from the output buffer and provide the processed data to a print head.

Claims

1. A central processor for a camera having printing capabilities, the central processor comprising

a CPU core for interpreting a programming script inputted thereto;

a vector processor connected to the CPU core via a data cache, the vector processor for executing image processing processes instructed by the programming script;

an input buffer connected to the vector processor;

an image sensor interface adapted to write data to the input buffer for processing by the vector processor;

an output buffer connected to the vector processor, the output buffer receiving data processed by the vector processor; and

a printhead interface adapted to read processed data from the output buffer and provide the processed data to a print head.

2. A processor as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a RAM interface connected to the data cache for facilitating communication with a RAM.

3. A processor as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a card reader interface adapted to write to the input buffer card image data representative of a programming script.

4. A processor as claimed in claim 3, wherein the vector processor is further adapted to process the card image data to obtain the programming script for interpretation by the CPU core.

5. A processor as claimed in claim 1, wherein the CPU core is a RISC core.

6. A processor as claimed in claim 5, wherein the CPU core is a 32 bit RISC core configured to run an image processing language and to perform general operating system duties of the camera.

7. A processor as claimed in claim 2, wherein the data cache is configured to have a minimum of 16 cache lines.

8. A processor as claimed in claim 2, wherein the RAM interface is a direct RAM interface.

9. A processor as claimed in claim 1, wherein the vector processor is a four-way parallel VLIW vector processor.

10. A processor as claimed in claim 1, wherein the input and output buffers are 8-bit wide FIFO buffers.
