Abstract

The present application provides “hot desking” features for multi-device users. A number of automatic hot desking registrations are provided in which users are assigned multiple devices on a permanent basis. A private branch exchange or central switch can be provided with a list of these devices and can relieve the user of the requirement of registration by detecting use of these devices and assigning user features and other pertinent system properties e.g. as an indication of location for find me/follow me services. The extension allows for automatically hot desking using a listed device, hot desking based on a location associated with a listed device, and hot desking using declared associations of listed devices.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for invoking an operational profile on a user device comprising:

receiving a directory number from a distant switch;

determining whether said directory number corresponds with an operational profile when said directory number is received from said distant switch; and

providing said operational profile to said user device dependent on said determination.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein receiving said directory number from said user device comprises receiving a call from said user device and extracting said directory number from said call.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein determining whether said directory number corresponds with said operational profile comprises searching a central hot desking table.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a predetermined sequence identifying said user device when said directory number does not correspond with an operational profile;

identifying an operational profile associated with said user device from said sequence;

providing said operational profile to said user device.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 4, wherein said sequence is comprised of said directory number and a personal access code.

The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein said operational profile comprises at least one of call forwarding information, do not disturb settings, ring time, pickup group number, interconnect number, call trace information, disconnect data, speed call information, network carrier identification, presence information, personal ring group information, presence and availability preferences, personal policy preferences, class of services, class of restrictions, interconnected cores, corporate identity, and network identification carriers.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein said user device is at least one of a mobile phone, a residence phone, and an office telephone.

8. A system comprising:

a database for storing a location associated with a communication device;

at least one processor; and

a memory operatively coupled to said processor, said memory storing program instructions that when executed by said processor, causes said processor to;

receive a position of a user device; and

provide a user profile to said communication device when said position of said user device is at or proximate to said location of said communication device as indicated within said database.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein said position is determined by a positioning system on said user device.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein said position is determined by a base station corresponding with said user device.

11. The system of claim 8, wherein said position is determined by a building locator corresponding with said user device.

12. The system of claim 8, wherein said memory storing program instructions, that when executed by said processor, causes said processor to further update said database through a management interface.

13. The system of claim 8, wherein said memory storing program instructions, that when executed by said processor, causes said processor to further provide said user profile to a default communication device when said position of said user device is not found within said database.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein said default communication device is a cellular phone.

15. A central switch for providing user profiles comprising:

a server comprising;

a database for storing network addresses for user devices and associations between said user devices;

at least one processor;

a memory operatively coupled to the processor, said memory storing program instructions that when executed by said processor, causes said processor to;

receive a network address from a user device;

determine whether said user device is associated with at least one other device by identifying associations within said database; and

provide a user profile to said network address of said user device and to a network address of said at least one other device dependent on said determination.

16. The central switch of claim 15, wherein said user device is a WiFi device and said at least one other device is a cellular telephone.

17. The central switch of claim 16, wherein said network address of said cellular phone is a directory number.

18. The central switch of claim 16, wherein said network address of said WiFi device is a SIP URI.

19. The central switch of claim 15, wherein said user device and said at least one other device is located on the same apparatus.

20. The central switch of claim 15, wherein said memory storing program instructions, that when executed by said processor, causes said processor to further route incoming calls to said user device and said at least one other device dependent on said determination.
