SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING PHOTOGRAPH LOCATION INFORMATION IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION DEVICE

1. A wireless communication device, comprising:
- a camera module for taking a photograph and creating a photograph image;
a GPS receiver integral to the wireless communications device for receiving raw current location data;
a memory integral to the wireless communications device for storing the photograph image, and a look up table directly matching a GPS coordinate entry to a current descriptive location information entry;
a processor internal to the wireless communications device for creating a current descriptive location information for the photograph image by matching the received raw current GPS location data directly to a look up table entry included in the look up table for the GPS coordinate entry, to find the current descriptive location information, the processor then associating the photograph image with the current descriptive location information and storing the descriptive location information and the photograph image in the memory;
a transceiver coupled to the processor transmitting the photograph image and the added descriptive location information over a wireless network; and
a display for displaying the photograph image and the current descriptive location information.

Abstract
Descriptive location information is associated with and displayed with a photograph taken on a wireless communication device. The descriptive location information is derived from raw location data received from a global positioning system (GPS) receiver in the wireless communication device. The raw location data is cross-referenced with descriptive location information contained within, for example, look-up tables in a memory of the device. The descriptive location information describes the location where the image was taken, for example, a city, a landmark, a distance from a city or landmark, and is visible to a user on the image displayed on a screen of the wireless device or another device.

11. A method for identifying a location associated with a digital photograph taken on a digital device, comprising:

detecting a camera mode; receiving raw location data from an integral GPS receiver; creating a descriptive location information by a direct tabular matching of the raw location data to descriptive location information stored in a memory internal to the digital device; creating a photographic image of the location upon a trigger event; associating the descriptive location information with the photographic image and storing it in a memory; storing the digital photograph comprising the photographic image and the descriptive location information;

receiving current location data from a GPS receiver integral to a camera phone; comparing location data in an integral camera phone look-up table of memory; and updating the integral camera phone look-up table of memory if the current location data does not correspond to a current location of the camera phone, as reflected in the received current location data.
