1. A self contained physiological monitoring device adapted for disposition within a body cavity, comprising:

  • a body adapted for insertion into a body cavity;

    a battery mounted to the body;

    a memory device mounted to the body;

    at least one sensor mounted proximate to the body, the sensor being operatively interconnected to the battery and the memory device, wherein the sensor is operative to monitor at least one physiological parameter and generate an output indicative of the physiological parameter, wherein the output is stored by the memory device; and

    a bio-inert coating covering at least a portion of the battery, the memory and the sensor, wherein the bio-inert coating substantially isolates these elements from bodily fluids when disposed within a body cavity.
