a surgical instrument configured for resecting tissue from a patient, wherein the surgical instrument is received within the first delivery lumen; and
a sensor element configured to detect at least one property of the tissue of said patient, the sensor being positioned within the secondary lumen so as to contact tissue.

Abstract
A system for detecting tissue in a patient is disclosed. The system includes an introducer assembly, a surgical instrument and a sensor element. In one configuration, the introducer assembly has a first delivery lumen and a secondary lumen. The surgical instrument is configured for resecting tissue from a patient, and is received within the first delivery lumen. The sensor element is configured to detect at least one property of the tissue of said patient. The sensor being positioned within the secondary lumen so as to contact tissue.
