Abstract

A bodily fluid sampling device includes a piercing device and a sensor enclosed in a housing. A cassette, which contains test media, is positioned proximal to the sensor so that the sensor is able to analyze a bodily fluid sample collected on the test media. The cassette includes a supply portion from which unused test media is supplied and a storage portion in which contaminated test media is stored after exposure to the bodily fluid. The cassette is adapted to collect a series of bodily fluid samples without requiring disposal of the test media.

Claims

1. A cassette, comprising:

a test tape having a plurality of test sections to test a plurality of body fluid samples;

a cover protecting the test tape prior to use; and

an exposure device configured to permit access to a test section of the test tape covered by the cover.

2. The cassette of claim 1, wherein the exposure device includes a cover reel around which the cover is wound to peel the cover from the test tape.

3. The cassette of claim 2, further comprising:

a supply reel around which the test tape is wound prior to use; and

a take-up reel around which the test tape is wound after use.

4. The cassette of claim 1, wherein:

the cover includes a plurality of blister packs covering the test sections; and

the exposure device includes a cutting device configured to pierce the blister packs to expose the test sections.

5. The cassette of claim 1, wherein:

the cover includes a seal membrane; and

the exposure device includes a piercing device configured to pierce the seal membrane.

6. A sampling module cartridge comprising a plurality of sampling modules interconnected in an array and configured for sequential use.

7. The sampling module cartridge of claim 6 wherein at least one of the sampling modules comprises a sample reservoir having an analytical site with sample sensors for sample testing.

8. A sampling module cartridge comprising:

(a) a plurality of sampling modules interconnected in an array by a sampling module belt; and

(b) a supply canister that is disposed about an unused portion of the sampling module belt.

9. The sampling module cartridge of claim 8 further comprising a receptacle canister that is configured to store a used portion of the sampling module belt.

10. The sampling module cartridge of claim 8 wherein at least one of the sampling modules comprises a sample reservoir having an analytical site with sample sensors for sample testing.

11. A sampling module cartridge comprising a plurality of sampling modules disposed within a cartridge housing and configured for serial use by a lancet driver.

12. The sampling module cartridge of claim 11 wherein at least one of the sampling modules comprises a sample reservoir having an analytical site with sample sensors for sample testing.

13. A test cassette for collecting a bodily fluid sample, comprising:

a test media tape adapted to collect the bodily fluid,

a supply portion storing an uncontaminated section of the test media tape that is uncontaminated with the bodily fluid, the supply portion including a supply reel, wherein the uncontaminated section of the test media tape is wound on the supply reel;

a storage portion storing a contaminated section of the test media tape that is contaminated with the bodily fluid, the storage portion including a take-up reel, wherein the contaminated section of the test media tape is wound on the take-up reel;

an exposure portion positioned between the supply portion and the storage portion, the exposure portion being adapted to expose a section of the test media tape to the bodily fluid; and

a sensor positioned between the supply portion and the storage portion to sense at least one property of the bodily fluid collected on the test media tape at the exposure portion of the cassette; and

characterized in that the take-up reel has a geared portion that engages a biased cassette pawl that permits the take-up reel to rotate in only one direction so that test media can only be fed into the storage portion and not removed.
