Abstract

Providing controlled access for a destination in a messaging system includes: selecting a destination for storing messages in a messaging system, one or more of the messages comprising one or more message properties; associating each of a set of message requestors with a set of message selectors; and in response to an access request for the destination from a message requestor, determining the set of said message selectors associated with the message requestor and using the identified set of message selectors to check against messages on the destination comprising a corresponding set of message properties for providing a response to the access request.

Claims

1. A method for providing controlled access for a destination in a messaging system, said method comprising:

selecting a destination for storing messages in a messaging system, one or more of said messages comprising one or more message properties;

associating each of a set of message requestors with a set of message selectors; and

in response to an access request for said destination from a message requestor, determining said set of said message selectors associated with said message requestor and using said identified set of message selectors to check against messages on said destination comprising a corresponding set of message properties for providing a response to said access request.

2. The method according to claim 1 further comprising:

in response to a request to browse said destination in accordance with a set of browse criteria, determining said set of said message selectors associated with said message requestor; and

browsing said destination in accordance with said set of browse criteria and said identified set of said message selectors to identify messages stored on said destination for providing a response to said browse request.

3. The method according to claim 1 further comprising:

in response to a request to get a message from said destination, determining the set of said message selectors associated with said message requestor;

identifying messages on said destination corresponding to said identified set of said message selectors for providing a response to said get request; and

removing said identified messages from said destination.

4. The method according to claim 1 wherein each said message requestor is assigned a requestor identifier and said requestor identifier is associated with said set of said message selectors.

5. The method according to claim 1 wherein a set of message selectors is determined by an administrator for a given message requestor.

6. The method according to claim 1 wherein said destination is a queue.

7. The method according to claim 1 wherein said destination is provided by an alias queue.

8. A computer program product comprising a computer useable medium having a computer readable program, wherein the computer readable program when executed on a computer causes the computer to:

select a destination for storing messages in a messaging system, one or more of said messages comprising one or more message properties;

associate each of a set of message requestors with a set of message selectors; and

in response to an access request for said destination from a message requestor, determine said set of said message selectors associated with said message requestor and use said identified set of message selectors to check against messages on said destination comprising a corresponding set of message properties for providing a response to said access request.

9. The computer program product according to claim 8 wherein the computer readable program when executed on the computer further causes the computer to:

in response to a request to browse said destination in accordance with a set of browse criteria, determine said set of said message selectors associated with said message requestor; and

browse said destination in accordance with said set of browse criteria and said identified set of said message selectors to identify messages stored on said destination for providing a response to said browse request.

10. The computer program product according to claim 8 wherein the computer readable program when executed on the computer further causes the computer to:

in response to a request to get a message from said destination, determine the set of said message selectors associated with said message requestor;

identify messages on said destination corresponding to said identified set of said message selectors for providing a response to said get request; and

remove said identified messages from said destination.

11. The computer program product according to claim 8 wherein each said message requestor is assigned a requestor identifier and said requestor identifier is associated with said set of said message selectors.

12. The computer program product according to claim 8 wherein a set of message selectors is determined by an administrator for a given message requestor.

13. The computer program product according to claim 8 wherein said destination is a queue.

14. The computer program product according to claim 8 wherein said destination is provided by an alias queue.
