Abstract

Table saws are disclosed. The table saws may include a circular blade, an elevation mechanism configured to raise and lower the blade relative to the work surface; and a spring to provide a force biasing the blade up or down relative to the work surface. The spring may be a gas spring connected between a trunnion and an elevation plate.

Claims

1. A table saw comprising:

a table defining a work surface;

a nominally planar, circular blade configured to extend at least partially above the work surface to cut a workpiece on the work surface;

a motor to drive the blade;

an elevation mechanism configured to raise and lower the blade relative to the work surface; and

a spring to provide a force biasing the blade up or down relative to the work surface.

2. The table saw of claim 1, where the spring biases the blade up relative to the work surface.

3. The table saw of claim 1, where the spring is biased to push the blade up relative to the work surface with a predetermined amount of force.

4. The table saw of claim 1, where the spring is a gas spring.

5. The table saw of claim 1, where the elevation mechanism includes an elevation plate, and where the spring is connected to the elevation plate.

6. The table saw of claim 1, further comprising a trunnion, where the elevation mechanism includes an elevation plate, and where the spring is connected to the trunnion and elevation plate.

7. The table saw of claim 1, further comprising a front trunnion, where the elevation mechanism includes an elevation plate, and where the spring is connected to the front trunnion and elevation plate.
