OPERATIONAL SYSTEM AND ARCHTECTURAL MODEL FOR IMPROVED MANIPULATION OF VIDEO AND TIME MEDIA DATA FROM NETWORKED TIME-BASED MEDIA
First Claim
1. An operational system and electronic architecture enabling operation of a user interface for manipulation of time-based media by a plurality of users, including at least a first user, said operational system and electronic architecture comprising:
- a plurality of networked user computerized electronic devices enabling a manipulation of said time-based media and connection with a user electronic interface layer;
said user electronic interface layer enabling a plurality of activities between at least one said networked user computerized electronic device and a connected electronic system environment;
at least one of said plurality of activities including transmitting and receiving electronic communications of said time-based media between said user computerized electronic devices and said connected electronic system environment;
an encoding system for receiving said time-based media and for encoding said time-based media in at least a first selected one of a plurality of encoding standards;
a metadata system for establishing metadata associated with said based media encoded in said at least first selected encoding standard;
electronic storage means for storing said encoded time-based media and said metadata associated with said encoded time-based media;
an electronic interaction system enabling said at least first user to modify said metadata associated with said encoded time-based media, said enabled modifications to said metadata being one of a modification including at least a first user stored playback decision list and a modification not including said at least first stored playback decision list, via a communication path including at least one of said plurality of said user computerized electronic devices, said electronic interface layer and said electronic interaction system, whereby said first user stored first playback decision list modifies said metadata without modifying said encoded time-based media in said first selected encoding standard;
said electronic interaction system including at least a display control system and a play control system enabling said one of said plurality of users to display and play said encoded time-based media according to said metadata modified according to said at least one playback decision list of said at least first user;
said electronic interaction system and said metadata creation system enabling at least one of said plurality of users to enable and store at least a second stored playback decision list that modifies said stored metadata in a second manner without modifying said first stored playback decision list;
whereby said electronic data system enables a generation of a plurality of stored playback decision lists that enable a plurality of distinct user-determined playbacks of said encoded time-based media without a re-encoding of said encoded time-based media, thereby minimizing a storage space for said encoded time-based media; and
said electronic interaction system further comprising;
a display control system and a play control system enabling at least one of said plurality of users to display and play said encoded time-based media according to said metadata as at least one of said stored playback decision lists, thereby enabling said plurality of users to interact via user electronic interface.

Abstract
The present invention provides a novel operational system and electronic architectural model for organizing and improving viewing and editing of time-based video media and for overcoming the detriments required by the previous film and video industry based editing technologies. The present system enables an operator to manipulate the visual and audio perception of underlying video and audio data without changing the same. A series of metadata modules enable real-time operation and editing of video data and control of a play back module as well as an improved sharing, viewing, searching, and showing of underlying video and audio data.
