Abstract

A beverage container (20) containing a removable lid (30), the container comprising a rim (24), a side wall (23) depending from the rim, a shoulder portion extending inwardly from the side wall, the removable lid comprising an edge (33) extending over the rim, and along the side wall, and against the shoulder portion thereby attaching the lid to the container.

Claims

1. A beverage container containing a removable lid, the container comprising a rim, a side wall depending from the rim, a shoulder portion extending inwardly from the side wall, the removable lid comprising an edge extending over the rim, and along the side wall, and against the shoulder portion thereby attaching the lid to the container.

2. The container as claimed in claim 1, wherein a plurality of shoulder portions is provided on the side wall of the container.

3. The container as claimed in claim 1, wherein the shoulder portion is defined by an circumferential groove in the outside wall of the beverage container.

4. The container as claimed in claim 1, wherein the container has a main outer body, and the side wall comprises a thickened portion of the main outer body, and the shoulder portion comprises an annular land portion that extends between the thickened portion and the main outer body.

5. The container as claimed in claim 1, wherein the edge of the removable lid comprises a seal which extends over the rim of the container when the lid is attached to the container.

6. The container as claimed in claim 1, wherein the edge of the lid that extends over the side wall of the container contains a pull tab or lift tab that can be manipulated to break at least part of the edge of the lid thereby enabling the lid to be removed.

The container as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lid contains a main portion extending within the rim of the container, and an edge that extends over the rim and side wall of the container, and a lift tab or a pull tab on the main portion that can be manipulated to break at least part of the main portion thereby enabling the lid to be removed.

The container as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lid contains a main portion extending within the rim of the container, and an edge portion that extends over the rim and side wall of the container, the lid, including the main portion being movable between a convex position where the main portion adopts a convex shape and causes the edge to engage against the side wall of the container, and a concave position where the main portion adopts a concave shape that causes the edge to become disengaged from the side wall thereby enabling the lid to be removed.

The container as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lid contains a main portion extending within the rim of the container, an edge portion that extends over the rim and side wall of the container, a pull tab or lift tab that contains a head portion adapted to be gripped by a person'"'"'s fingers, and an arm portion which is attached to the head portion and the edge portion of the lid, a weakened area in the main portion and adjacent the pull tab or lift tab, whereby the pull tab or lift tab is initially manipulated to break the weakened area in the main portion, and can then be further manipulated to raise the arm portion which breaks the edge of the lid thereby enabling the lid to be removed from the container.

The container as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lid contains a main portion extending within the rim of the container, an edge portion that extends over the rim and side wall of the container, a pull tab or lift tab that contains a head portion adapted to be gripped by a person'"'"'s fingers, an arm portion that is attached to the head portion and which comprises part of the main portion, the pull tab or lift tab also being connected to the edge such that manipulation of the pull tab or lift tab initially breaks the edge and further lifting of the pull tab or lift tab causes the arm portion to be ripped at least partially away from the main body portion thereby enabling the lid to be removed from the container.

The container as claimed in claim 1, further including a clamping band adapted to extend at least partially about the edge of the lid to assist in clamping the lid to the container, the clamping band being operable between a closed position where the lid is attached to the container, and a release position where the lid can be removed from the container.

The container as claimed in claim 1, including a clamping band adapted to extend at least partially about the edge of the lid to clamp the lid to the container, the clamping band containing a lift tab or a pull tab and the clamping band adapted to be pulled off the lid after which the lid can be removed from the container.

The container as claimed in claim 1, wherein the edge contains a tool accepting profile, and a tool containing a handle, and a front portion, the front portion adapted to engage with the tool accepting profile in the edge, whereby the tool can remove at least part of the edge from the container thereby enabling the lid to be removed from the container.

The container as claimed in claim 1, wherein the edge contains a circumferential strip member that forms part of the edge but which can be at least partially ripped away from the edge to loosen the edge thereby enabling the lid to be removed from the container, and a tab member attached to the strip, the tab member able to be gripped by a person'"'"'s finger and manipulated to rip at least part of the strip away from the edge.

A beverage container containing a removable lid, the container comprising a rim, a side wall depending from the rim, a separate member that is attachable to the side wall and which contains an engagement profile, the removable lid comprising an edge extending over the rim, and along the side wall, and against the engagement profile thereby attaching the lid to the container.

16. A container and removable lid assembly, comprising a container with an open mouth defined by a rim, and an outer wall, a plurality of separated thread members on the outer wall, a plurality of thread receiving recesses on the lid, whereby the lid can be twist locked and twist unlocked to the container.
