Abstract

The systems and methods disclosed transmit a composite channel to a receiver. The composite channel may be a static channel that contains different original channels of content in different locations on a displayed page, or may be a dynamic channel that is processed by the receiver to display a multiple different video streams on a single display device.

Claims

1. A method for displaying a plurality of video streams on a single display device comprising:

transmitting, to a receiver attached to a display device, a plurality of first video streams, each first video stream being a different stream of high resolution video data; and

simultaneously transmitting to the receiver at least one second video stream, each second video stream including low resolution video data derived from one or more of the plurality of first video streams.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one second video stream includes a plurality of low resolution video data streams, each low resolution video data stream being derived from a different one of the plurality of first video streams, the method further comprising:

rendering a selected second video stream on the display device, the rendering including simultaneously displaying each low resolution video data stream of the selected second video stream in different areas on the display device; and

rendering audio data associated with one of the first video streams simultaneously with the rendering of the selected second video stream.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the simultaneously transmitting the at least one second video stream further comprises:

simultaneously transmitting a plurality of second video streams, each second video stream being a single stream of low resolution video data derived from a different one of the plurality of first video streams.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising:

rendering in different areas on the display device, a subset of the plurality of second video streams; and

rendering audio data associated with one of the first video streams simultaneously with the rendering in different areas on the display device, the subset of the plurality of second video streams.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

transmitting a plurality of audio streams, each audio stream being a stream of audio data associated with a different first video stream.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving source data from one or more data sources;

generating, from the source data, the plurality of first video streams for transmission;

generating, from the source data, the low resolution video data for one or more different video displays; and

generating the at least one second video stream for transmission.

7. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium having computer-executable instructions thereon for displaying a plurality of video streams on a single display device, the computer-executable comprising instructions for:

transmitting, to a receiver attached to a display device, a plurality of first video streams, each first video stream being a different stream of high resolution video data; and

simultaneously transmitting to the receiver at least one second video stream, each second video stream including low resolution video data derived from one or more of the plurality of first video streams.

The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 7, wherein the at least one second video stream includes a plurality of low resolution video data streams, each low resolution video data stream being derived from a different one of the plurality of first video streams, the computer-executable instructions further comprising instructions for:

rendering a selected second video stream on the display device, the rendering including simultaneously displaying each low resolution video data stream of the selected second video stream in different areas on the display device; and

rendering audio data associated with one of the first video streams simultaneously with the rendering of the selected second video stream.

9. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 7 wherein the simultaneously transmitting the at least one second video stream further comprises:

simultaneously transmitting a plurality of second video streams, each second video stream being a single stream of low resolution video data derived from a different one of the plurality of first video streams.

10. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 9 having further computer-executable instructions thereon for:

rendering in different areas on the display device, a subset of the plurality of second video streams; and

rendering audio data associated with one of the first video streams simultaneously with the rendering in different areas on the display device, the subset of the plurality of second video streams.

11. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 7 having further computer-executable instructions thereon for:

transmitting a plurality of audio streams, each audio stream being a stream of audio data associated with a different first video stream.

12. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 7 having further computer-executable instructions thereon for:

receiving source data from one or more data sources;

generating, from the source data, the plurality of first video streams for transmission;

generating, from the source data, the low resolution video data for one or more different video displays; and

generating the at least one second video stream for transmission.

13. A system for displaying a plurality of video streams on a single display device comprising:

a memory; and

a processor operably coupled to the memory, the processor configured to perform the following;

transmitting, to a receiver attached to a display device, a plurality of first video streams, each first video stream being a different stream of high resolution video data; and

simultaneously transmitting to the receiver at least one second video stream, each second video stream including low resolution video data derived from one or more of the plurality of first video streams.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the at least one second video stream includes a plurality of low resolution video data streams, each low resolution video data stream being derived from a different one of the plurality of first video streams, the processor further configured to perform the following:

rendering a selected second video stream on the display device, the rendering including simultaneously displaying each low resolution video data stream of the selected second video stream in different areas on the display device; and

rendering audio data associated with one of the first video streams simultaneously with the rendering of the selected second video stream.

15. The system of claim 13 wherein the simultaneously transmitting the at least one second video stream further comprises:

simultaneously transmitting a plurality of second video streams, each second video stream being a single stream of low resolution video data derived from a different one of the plurality of first video streams.

16. The system of claim 15 wherein the processor is further configured to perform the following:

rendering in different areas on the display device, a subset of the plurality of second video streams; and

rendering audio data associated with one of the first video streams simultaneously with the rendering in different areas on the display device, the subset of the plurality of second video streams.

17. The system of claim 13 wherein the processor is further configured to perform transmitting a plurality of audio streams, each audio stream being a stream of audio data associated with a different first video stream.

18. The system of claim 13 wherein the processor is further configured to perform the following:

receiving source data from one or more data sources;

generating, from the source data, the plurality of first video streams for transmission;

generating, from the source data, the low resolution video data for one or more different video displays; and

generating the at least one second video stream for transmission.
