1. A system for managing controlled substance prescriptions comprising:

  • a central server having a processor, said central server having tables comprising a database for receiving, processing, and storing prescription information;

    a computer network, said network providing electronic communications between said central server and one or more computers;

    at least one pharmacy connected to a first computer, said computer being connected to said computer network;

    a biometric reader reading identifying biometric data from a physician writing a prescription; and

    at least a second computer communicating with said biometric reader and recording prescription information into said second computer and cross-referencing said prescription information with said biometric data and creating an authorization associated with the prescription as a function of at least the biometric data, the authorization being part of the prescription information;

    the second computer communicating said prescription information to said central server across said computer network;

    the central processor processing said prescription information with other information at said central server to determine whether said prescription should be filled, and communicating the result of said determination across said network to said first computer.
