Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a system and method for determining the products involved in a transaction conducted with a subsidiary user of a payment account, and transmitting messages containing product specific information. Systems may be implemented to transmit product identifiers during payment processing. The product specific information may be included in alert messages sent to an account holder.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving transaction data for a transaction conducted with a first user, the transaction data including a product identifier for a product;

accessing a database including product control data associated with the product identifier, the product control data including a product name identified by the product identifier;

generating, using a computer server, a product control alert indicator, the product control alert indicator including the product name; and

sending a product control alert message to a user device of an account holder associated with the payment account, the product control alert message including the product control alert indicator, wherein the account holder is a second user different from the first user.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the user device is mobile phone.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein prior to the transaction, the account holder registered a list of products requiring notification.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the product identifier is received as part of an authorization request message, and the sending a product control alert message comprises:

accessing the database including product control data to determine payment account contact information, the payment account contact information including contact information for the user device; and

sending, using the computer server, the product control alert message to the user device based upon the payment account contact information.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the product control data includes a list of prohibited product identifiers.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the database is located on the edge of a payment processing network, further wherein the sending a product control alert message comprises:

generating an authorization request message that references the product control alert indicator; and

sending the authorization request message to a notification server computer, wherein the notification server computer generates the product control alert message that includes the product control alert indicator, and further wherein the notification server computer transmits the product control alert message to the user device.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the product control alert message further includes loyalty program information for the product.

8. A computer readable medium comprising code executable by a processor, the code for implementing the method according to claim 1.

9. A server computer comprising the computer readable medium of claim 8.

10. A method comprising:

enrolling a payment account with a notification service;

registering a list of products requiring notification; and

receiving a product control alert message at a user device of a second user, wherein the product control alert message includes a product control alert indicator for a purchased product, after the payment account has been used by a first user to conduct a purchase transaction for the product.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the purchased product is registered on the list of products.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein the payment account includes one or more subsidiary accounts, each subsidiary account has a respective list of products, and wherein registering a list of products includes registering each respective list of products for each subsidiary account.

13. The method of claim 12 further comprising:

receiving a product control alert message each time a subsidiary account is used to purchase a product that is listed on the respective products list for the subsidiary account.

14. A system comprising:

a database comprising product control data associated with product identifiers for products; and

a server computer coupled to the database, wherein the server computer comprises a processor and a computer-readable medium coupled to the processor, the computer-readable medium comprising code executable by the processor for implementing a method comprising;

receiving transaction data for a transaction conducted with a first user, the transaction data including a product identifier for a product;

accessing a database including product control data associated with the product identifier, the product control data including a product name identified by the product identifier;

generating, using a computer server, a product control alert indicator, the product control alert indicator including the product name; and

sending a product control alert message to a user device of an account holder associated with the payment account, the product control alert message including the product control alert indicator, wherein the account holder is a second user different from the first user.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the system is coupled to a payment processing network configured to process the transaction.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the system is located on the edge of the payment processing network.

17. The system of claim 14, wherein the database further comprises a list of prohibited product identifiers.

18. The system of claim 14, wherein the database further includes a contact information for each user device associated with the payment account.
