Abstract

A system for generating a customized web page comprises an identifier generator and manager (IGM) for generating a plurality of identifiers from data collected respective of usage of information by a user over time and for providing an answer responsive to a query, wherein the answer is based on the plurality of identifiers; an auto-discovery and management unit for determining relevancy to the user of information retrieved from an information source, wherein the determination is based on answers received from the IGM; and a web page generator for generating a web page containing at least a snippet of the relevant information in a designated display area of the generated web page.

Claims

1. A system for generating a customized web page, comprising:

an identifier generator and manager (IGM) for generating a plurality of identifiers from data collected respective of usage of information by a user over time and for providing an answer responsive to a query, wherein the answer is based on the plurality of identifiers;

an auto-discovery and management unit for determining relevancy to the user of information retrieved from an information source, wherein the determination is based on answers received from the IGM; and

a web page generator for generating a web page containing at least a snippet of the relevant information in a designated display area of the generated web page.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the generated web page refreshes periodically.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the display area contains a display area for objective information and for subjective information, the objective information being ranked high by an external source and deemed relevant to the user based on the user identifiers, and the subjective information being information that is either unranked or of low ranking by the external source but have a high ranking based on the user'"'"'s identifiers.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the at least snippet is determined by checking a plurality of potential snippets of the information against the user'"'"'s identifiers to determine which snippet is most suitable to display in the web page.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the identifiers are uniquifiers characterizing the user of the user device.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the web page is one of a web portal, a start page of a web browser, and an automatically generated blog post.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the system is integrated in at least one of a personal computer (PC), a personal digital assistant (PDA), a mobile phone, a smart phone.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the content of the web page is distributed periodically as a newsletter to a distribution list.

17. The method of claim 1, is executed by computer executable code stored in computer readable medium.

9. A method for automatically generating a customized web page, comprising:

generating identifiers based on a user usage of information over time, wherein the identifiers provide unique identifications respective of a user;

receiving information from at least one information source;

determining whether the received information is relevant for the user based on the identifiers;

generating a web page that contains at least a snippet of the relevant information; and

displaying the web page on a display.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

periodically refreshing the web page with newly received information.

11. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

determining whether the relevant information is objective information or subjective information and placing the objective information into a first display area of the web page and the subjective information into a second display area;

wherein the objective information being ranked high by an external source and deemed relevant to the user based on the user identifiers, and the subjective information being information that is either unranked or of low ranking by the external source but have a high ranking based on the user'"'"'s identifiers.

12. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

generating a plurality of snippets of the relevant information;

checking each snippet of the plurality of snippets against the user'"'"'s identifiers; and

determining which snippet is most suitable to display in the web page.

13. The method of claim 9, wherein the identifiers are uniquifiers characterizing the user.

14. The method of claim 9, wherein the web page is one of a web portal, a start page of a web browser, and an automatically generated blog post.

15. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

generating a newsletter comprising at least a portion of the content of the web page; and

distributing the newsletter periodically to a distribution list.

16. The method of claim 9, wherein the identifies are generated by an identifiers generator and manager (IGM), the relevancy of information is determined by an auto-discovery and management unit, the web page is generated by a web page generator, and the web page displayed by a web browser.

18. An apparatus comprising a storage medium and capable of generating and storing a customized web page, wherein the customized web page comprising:

at least an item corresponding to an area of interest of a user of the customized web page selected based on at least an identifier of the user;

at least a thumbnail of a web site of interest to the user of the customized web page selected based on at least an identifier of the user; and

at least a topic corresponding to an area of interest of a user of the web page selected based on at least an identifier of the user.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the customized web page is one of a web portal, a start page of a web browser, an automatically generated blog post, and a newsletter.

20. The apparatus of claim 18, further being capable displaying on a display of a user device.
