Contact Activated Lancet Device
First Claim
1. A lancet device, comprising:
- a housing defining at least one finger grip indentation;
a shield coaxially and movably associated with the housing; and
a removable sterile tab member associated with a puncturing element disposed in the housing,wherein the shield is movably associated with the housing to move from a first position extending outward from the housing to a second position at least partially retracted into the housing, and wherein the at least one finger grip indentation comprises a concave surface shape facing substantially transversely away from an axis passing axially through the puncture element.

Abstract
A lancet device including a housing and a lancet structure having a puncturing element. The lancet structure disposed within the housing and adapted for movement between a retaining or pre-actuated position wherein the puncturing element is retained within the housing, and a puncturing position wherein the puncturing element extends through a forward end of the housing. The lancet device includes a drive spring disposed within the housing for biasing the lancet structure toward the puncturing position, and a retaining hub retaining the lancet structure in the retracted position against the bias of the drive spring. The retaining hub includes a pivotal lever in interference engagement with the lancet structure. An actuator within the housing pivots the lever, thereby moving the lancet structure toward the rearward end of the housing to at least partially compress the drive spring, and releasing the lever from interference engagement with the lancet structure.

5. A lancet device comprising:
-
a housing; a lancet structure comprising a puncturing element, the lancet structure disposed within the housing and adapted for movement between a pre-actuated position wherein the puncturing element is retained within the housing and a puncturing position wherein the puncturing element extends through a forward end of the housing; a sterile tab member extending distally from the puncturing element and protecting the puncturing element prior to use; a drive spring disposed within the housing for biasing the lancet structure toward the puncturing position; and a shield extending through the forward end of the housing and axially movable with respect to the housing, wherein the tab member is removably associated with the shield and engages a distal end of the housing to prevent movement of the shield relative to the housing that would cause the drive spring to bias the lancet structure to the puncturing position. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8, 9, 10)

11. A lancet device, comprising:
-
a housing defining at least one finger grip indentation; a shield coaxially and movably associated with the housing; and a second opposed finger grip indentation, wherein the shield is movably associated with the housing to move from a first position extending outward from the housing to a second position at least partially retracted into the housing, and wherein the at least one finger grip indentation comprises a concave surface shape facing substantially transversely away from an axis passing axially through the puncture element and wherein a substantially horizontal longitudinal plane passing substantially centrally through the housing is approximately equidistant between the finger grip indentations.

12. A lancet device comprising:
-
a housing; a lancet structure comprising a puncturing element, the lancet structure disposed within the housing and adapted for movement between a pre-actuated position wherein the puncturing element is retained within the housing and a puncturing position wherein the puncturing element extends through a forward end of the housing; a sterile tab member extending distally from the puncturing element and protecting the puncturing element prior to use; a biasing member disposed within the housing for biasing the lancet structure toward the puncturing position; and a shield extending through the forward end of the housing, wherein the tab member is removably associated with the shield and engages a distal end of the housing. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16)
