Abstract

Embodiments relate to systems and methods for object-based modeling using a composite model object having independently updatable component objects. A modeling client can host modeling logic and an application programming interface (API) to create, access, manipulate, and import/export modeling objects used in modeling applications, such as engineering, medical, financial, and other modeling platforms. In aspects, the source data accepted into the modeling client can include consumer or business-level applications, whose spreadsheet, database or other content can be extracted and encapsulated in extensible markup language (XML) or other object-oriented format. Various model objects can be extracted from source data, and aggregated into a composite model object encapsulating the underlying set of component model objects. In aspects, each of the component model objects can be accessed, updated, and stored independently of the other constituent objects. The modeling client can exchange composite or other modeling objects with external platforms on a programmatic basis.

Claims

10. A client system, comprising:

an interface to a set of source data, the set of source data comprising a set of data elements and a set of attributes of the source data; and

a processor, communicating with the set of source data via the interface, the processor being configured to

access a set of source data,

select a set of extracted functional objects from the set of source data to generate a set of component model objects, and

aggregate the set of component model objects to generate a composite model object, wherein each of the model objects in the set of component model objects is independently updatable.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the set of component model objects is selectively viewable via the composite model object.

12. The system of claim 10, wherein the composite model object comprises a model object encoded in extensible markup language (XML) format.

13. The system of claim 10, wherein the composite model object comprises a set of links functionally linking the set of component model objects.

14. The system of claim 10, further comprising storing the composite model object in at least one of local storage of the client or remote storage.

15. The system of claim 10, wherein the at least one attribute comprises at least one of a function call parameter and a linkage parameter.

16. The system of claim 10, wherein the set of component object models are independently updatable via multiple modeling modules.

17. The system of claim 10, wherein the composite model object is exportable via an application programming interface (API).

18. The system of claim 10, where the set of source data is hosted in at least one of local storage of the client or remote storage.

19. A data store, the data store storing a composite model object, the data store comprising:

computer readable storage media; and

a composite model object, encoded in the computer readable storage media, the composite model object comprising

a set of component model objects, each of the set of component model objects comprising a set of data elements and a set of attributes of the source data, and

a set of linkages functionally linking the set of component model objects, the set of component model objects being configured to be independently updatable.
