Abstract

Often, for reasons of wireless bandwidth conservation, incomplete messages are provided to wireless messaging devices. Employing cryptography, for secrecy or authentication purposes, when including a received message that has been incompletely received can lead to lack of context on the receiver'"'"'s end. By automatically obtaining the entirety of the message to be included, an outgoing message that includes the received message can be processed in a manner that securely and accurately represents the intended outgoing message.

Claims

1. At a mobile wireless communication device, a method of processing an electronic message, said method comprising:

detecting receipt of an instruction to process a response message, where said response message includes a new portion and a truncated portion of a preceding message;

obtaining a remainder of said preceding message, thereby allowing formation of a complete preceding message;

forming a new message from said new portion and said complete preceding message; and

processing said new message.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said processing said new message comprises generating a digital signature for said new message.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein said generating said digital signature comprises obtaining a hash of said new message.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising

responsive to said detecting, presenting a dialog, on a display of said mobile wireless communication device, said dialog indicating inclusion, in said response message, of said truncated portion of said preceding message, said dialog further providing an option to obtain said remainder of said preceding message;

and

wherein said obtaining said remainder of said preceding message is responsive to receiving an indication of a user selection of said option.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein said dialog further provides an option to automatically obtain remainders of preceding messages in future operation.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein said processing said new message comprises encrypting said new message.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

determining that a size for said remainder of said preceding message is less than a threshold size; and

wherein said obtaining said remainder of said preceding message is responsive to said determining.

8. A mobile wireless communication device comprising:

a processor adapted to;

detect receipt of an instruction to process a response message, where said response message includes a new portion and a truncated portion of a preceding message;

obtain a remainder of said preceding message, thereby allowing formation of a complete preceding message;

form a new message from said new portion and said complete preceding message; and

process said new message.

9. A computer-readable storage medium containing computer-executable instructions that, when performed by a processor, cause said processor to:

detect receipt of an instruction to process a response message, where said response message includes a new portion and a truncated portion of a preceding message;

obtain a remainder of said preceding message, thereby allowing formation of a complete preceding message;

form a new message from said new portion and said complete preceding message; and

process said new message.

10. At a mobile wireless communication device, a method of processing an electronic message, said method comprising:

detecting receipt of an instruction to sign a response message, where said response message includes a new portion and a truncated portion of a preceding message;

generating, using a hashing algorithm and based on said response message, a primary hash;

transmitting a processing request to a server associated with said mobile wireless communication device, said request including a context for said hashing algorithm;

receiving, from said server, a secondary hash;

encrypting said secondary hash to form a digital signature;

transmitting said response message to said server;

transmitting said digital signature to said server associated with said response message.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising, responsive to said detecting, amending said response message to include an indication of the end of said response message.

12. At a server of messages to a mobile wireless communication device, a method of cross-component message processing, said method comprising:

dividing a received message into an initial portion and a remaining portion;

transmitting said initial portion of said message to said mobile wireless communication device;

receiving, from said mobile wireless communication device, a processing request, said request including a context for a hashing algorithm;

based on said context, continuing said hashing algorithm over said remaining portion to obtain a hash; and

transmitting said hash to said mobile wireless communication device.

13. At a mobile wireless communication device, a method of processing an electronic message, said method comprising:

detecting receipt of an instruction to sign a response message, where said response message includes a new portion and a preceding message;

transmitting a processing request to a server associated with said mobile wireless communication device, said request including said new portion;

receiving, from said server, a hash;

encrypting said hash to form a digital signature;

transmitting said digital signature to said server.

14. At a server of messages to a mobile wireless communication device, a method of cross-component message processing, said method comprising:

dividing a received message into an initial portion and a remaining portion;

transmitting said initial portion of said message to said mobile wireless communication device;

receiving, from said mobile wireless communication device, a processing request, said request including a new portion of a response message;

forming a complete response message from said new portion and said received message;

processing said complete response to obtain a hash; and

transmitting said hash to said mobile wireless communication device.
