SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ENDPOINT HANDOFF IN A HYBRID PEER-TO-PEER NETWORKING ENVIRONMENT
First Claim
1. A method for endpoint handoff in a hybrid peer-to-peer networking environment comprising:
- logging into the peer-to-peer network by a first endpoint;
notifying directly, by the first endpoint, a second endpoint that the second endpoint is to transfer an active communication session existing between the second endpoint and a third endpoint from the second endpoint to the first endpoint;
receiving, at the first endpoint, session parameters associated with the active communication session directly from the second endpoint;
notifying directly, by the first endpoint, the third endpoint that the first endpoint is online; and
re-establishing, by the first endpoint, the active communication session with the third endpoint using the session parameters.

Abstract
A system and method for endpoint handoff in a hybrid peer-to-peer networking environment are provided. In one example, the method includes logging into the peer-to-peer network by a first endpoint. The first endpoint directly notifies a second endpoint that the second endpoint is to transfer an active communication session existing between the second endpoint and a third endpoint from the second endpoint to the first endpoint. The first endpoint receives session parameters associated with the active communication session directly from the second endpoint and directly notifies the third endpoint that the first endpoint is online. The first endpoint then re-establishes the active communication session with the third endpoint using the session parameters.

10. A computer readable medium containing a plurality of instructions for execution by a first endpoint in a hybrid peer-to-peer networking environment comprising:
-
logging into the peer-to-peer network by the first endpoint; sending a query, from the first endpoint, directly to a second endpoint in order to identify whether the second endpoint is involved in any communication sessions; receiving, by the first endpoint, session parameters associated with a communication session directly from the second endpoint, wherein the session parameters indicate that the communication session exists between the second endpoint and a third endpoint, and wherein the session parameters indicate that the communication session includes two-way audio information sent between the second and third endpoints; sending, by the first endpoint, audio information directly to the third endpoint after receiving the session parameters; sending, by the first endpoint, an instruction directly to the second endpoint to stop sending audio from the second endpoint to the third endpoint; and receiving, by the first endpoint, audio information associated with the communication session directly from the third endpoint. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15)
