Abstract

A method of selecting graphic or video files having corresponding locators used to locate such graphic or video files using a computer. Identifiers are created by searching an area within a web page near a graphic or video file for searchable identification terms and searching an area within a web page near links to a graphic or video for searchable identification terms. The identifiers are stored in a database. User requests for graphic or video file content are received and the database of identifiers is searched to find graphic and video files corresponding criteria of the user. Graphic or video file content is then provided to the user.

Claims

2. A method of providing video information comprising:

receiving, at a server, a user identification of a video file stored in a storage device;

receiving a submission of user-provided information about the video file;

receiving a user input;

in response to receiving the user input,

determining a location of the video file in a storage device;

creating a link to the video file based on the determined location;

providing, using a display, the link to the video file and at least some of the user-provided information in the area surrounding the link.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein receiving a user identification of a video file comprises receiving a submission of the video file to a server, and automatically storing the video file in the storage device, wherein the storage device is in communication with the server.

4. The method of claim 2, further comprising providing, using the display, information about an item, wherein the item is at least one of a product, service, and website that is associated with the video file.

5. The method of claim 2, further comprising receiving an instruction to perform an operation with the video file, wherein the operation comprises one or more of viewing, saving, downloading, and sending.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein the at least some of the user-provided information comprises at least one of an author of the video file and an owner of the video file.

7. The method of claim 2, further comprising generating an identifier of the video file using the user-provided information about the video file and saving the identifier in an electronic database.

8. The method of claim 2, wherein the link to the video file and at least some of the user-provided information in the area surrounding the link is provided through an Internet interface.

9. A method of providing video information comprising:

identifying an electronically-stored video file;

receiving a submission of user-provided information about the video file through an Internet interface;

storing at least a portion of the user-provided information about the video file in a memory as searchable identifier information;

receiving search criteria;

identifying the video file when the search criteria match the at least a portion of the searchable identifier information;

creating a link to the video file based on the determined location;

providing, using a display, the link to the video file and at least some of the user-provided information in the area surrounding the link.

10. The method of claim 9 further comprising automatically storing the video file in a storage device.

11. The method of claim 9, further comprising providing, using the display, information about an item, wherein the item is at least one of a product, service, and website that is associated with the video file.

12. The method of claim 9, further comprising receiving an instruction to perform an operation with the video file, wherein the operation comprises one or more of viewing, saving, downloading, and sending.

13. The method of claim 9, wherein the at least some of the user-provided information comprises at least one of an author of the video file and an owner of the video file.

14. A system for providing video information comprising:

a storage device, operatively connected to a processor and configured to store one or more video files; and

the processor, configured to communicate with one or more user devices via the Internet, and to receive from at least one user device;

a user identification of a video file stored in the storage device,

a submission of user-provided information about the video file, and

a user input,

and further configured to, in response to receiving the user input;

determine a location of the video file in the database;

create a link to the video file based on the determined location;

provide, to at least one user device, a displayable file including the link to the video file and at least some of the user-provided information in the area surrounding the link.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the processor is further configured to automatically store the video file in the storage device.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the processor is further configured to provide, in response to receiving the user input, information about an item, wherein the item is at least one of a product, service, and website that is associated with the video file.

17. The system of claim 14, wherein the processor is further configured to receive, from the user device, an instruction to perform an operation with the video file, wherein the operation comprises one or more of viewing, saving, downloading, and sending.

18. The system of claim 14, wherein the at least some of the user-provided information comprises at least one of an author of the video file and an owner of the video file.

19. The system of claim 14, wherein the processor is further configured to generate an identifier of the video file using the user-provided information about the video file and store the identifier in the storage device.

20. The system of claim 14, wherein the link to the video file and at least some of the user-provided information in the area surrounding the link is provided through an Internet interface.

21. The system of claim 14, wherein the displayable file is provided to a user device different from the user device that submitted the user-provided information.
