Abstract

This invention discloses a low cost method to manufacture electrooptic devices at low cost and discloses materials that may be used in fabrication of electrooptic devices.

Claims

1. A process for manufacturing coated substrates of an electrooptic device, comprising producing uncoated substrates and directly transitioning the uncoated substrates to equipment that coats respective surfaces of the substrates.

2. The process of claim 1, further comprising assembly of the coated substrates to form a cavity between two substrates with their coated surfaces facing each other and a subsequent step of filling the said cavity with an electrooptic medium to provide an electrooptic device.

3. The process of claim 2, including providing automated inspection of the electrooptic device to automatically sort the acceptable and the nonacceptable devices.

4. The process of claim 1 where the coated substrates are coated in a manner configured them to form an electrochromic device.

5. The process of claim 2 where the said electrooptic device is an electrochromic device.

6. The process of claim 3 where the said electrooptic device is an electrochromic device.

7. The process of claim 4 where the said electrooptic device is an electrochromic automotive mirror.

8. The process of claim 5 where the said electrooptic device is an electrochromic automotive mirror.

9. The process of claim 6 where the said electrooptic device is an electrochromic automotive mirror.

10. The process of claim 2, wherein the said electrooptic device is a curved automotive exterior electrochromic mirror with a free form reflector.

11. A process for manufacturing coated substrates for an emissive electrooptic device, comprising producing uncoated substrates and directly transitioning the uncoated substrates to equipment that coats respective surfaces of the substrates.

12. The process of claim 11, wherein the coated substrates are coated in a manner configured them to form an organic light emitting electrooptic device.

13. The process of claim 12, wherein the process comprises of integrating the said organic light emitting electrooptic device with one or more components that form a luminaire with the said organic light emitting elctrooptic device as the illumination source.

14. An automotive rearview electrochromic mirror with a free form reflector that has a field of view larger than 30°

15. An automotive rearview electrochromic mirror as in claim 14, which comprises of at least one substrate with a transparent conductor.

16. An automotive rearview electrochromic mirror as in claim 14, wherein the reflector is selected from an inorganic compound and a nanophase metallic alloy.
