Abstract

An interactive television program guide system with digital storage is provided. The program guide gives users the ability to select a program for recording onto the digital storage device. The program guide may then provide the user a list of programs that includes at least one listing for a recorded program. The user may select a recorded program listing and the program guide will transfer the corresponding program from the digital storage device to a secondary storage device.

23. A method of playing back a program using user equipment comprising:

storing a program on a digital storage device, wherein the program includes an advertisement and program material;

displaying one or more playback options, wherein one of the one or more playback options is a skip commercial playback option; and

in response to the skip commercial playback option being selected, playing back the program materials and skipping the advertisement.

24. The method of claim 23, further comprising:

distinguishing the program materials from the advertisement based on data recorded with the program.

25. The method of claim 23, wherein the one or more playback options is a language option, wherein the language option allows a user to set a default language to play back the program materials;

and

in response to the language option being selected, playing back the program materials in the default language.

26. The method of claim 23, wherein the one or more options is a video format option, wherein the video format option allows a user to set a video format to play back the program materials;

and

in response to the video format option being selected, playing back the program materials in the video format.

27. A method of displaying program listings using user equipment comprising:

receiving an indication that a user desires to view program listings based on a theme; and

in response to receiving the indication;

accessing stored program data associated with a stored program, wherein the stored program is stored on a digital storage device included in the user equipment;

accessing broadcast program data associated with a broadcast program; and

displaying program listings associated with the stored program data and the broadcast program data that match the theme.

28. The method of claim 27, further comprising:

in response to receiving an indication that the user desires to access the stored program data, displaying a program listings information screen associated with the stored program data.

29. The method of claim 27, further comprising:

in response to receiving an indication that the user desires to access the broadcast program data, displaying a program listings information screen associated with the broadcast program data.

30. The method of claim 27, further comprising:

in response to receiving an indication that the user desires to play back the stored program, playing back the stored program.

31. The method of claim 27, further comprising:

in response to receiving an indication that the user desires to play back the broadcast program, playing back the broadcast program.

32. A method of editing a recorded program using user equipment comprising:

displaying a time bar indicator associated with the recorded program;

receiving a user request to mark a position of the recorded program;

in response to receiving the user request;

marking the position of the recorded program; and

displaying a marker in the time bar indicator, wherein the marker in the time bar indicator is associated with the position in the recorded program; and

playing the recorded program from the position in response to a user indication to view a portion of the recorded program associated with the marker.

33. The method of claim 32, wherein playing comprises:

playing the recorded program in a video feedback area.

34. The method of claim 32, wherein playing further comprises:

playing the recorded program in a fast-forward playback mode.

35. The method of claim 32, further comprising:

receiving a user request to delete the portion of the recorded program; and

deleting the portion of the recorded program.

36. The method of claim 35, wherein deleting comprises:

enabling the user to confirm that the portion of the recorded program is properly defined.

37. The method of claim 35, wherein deleting further comprises:

deleting program data associated with the portion of the recorded program.
